    USA > Canada
Annexation is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.

Canada is the best country on the planet. Try to deal with it better. There are reasons you are miserable.

It's one of the best...consistently ranks in many top categories depending on what people are looking for and need. Typically it ranks above the United States.

Simply, the idiots from the United States who rags on Canada are clueless, especially those that are on record here at ET in the Political section complaining about many endless (repetitive) problems in the United States.

I have citizenship and residency in both countries and have experienced just about everything in both countries except for the military. My military experience has been 100% exclusively in the United States. Obviously, in the military category, I rank the United States far above Canada although I've never experienced the Canadian military.

Yet, overall, Canada distanced itself further from the United States during the Covid Pandemic...Canada greatly outperformed the United States in its fight against the Covid disease in that the United States had greater numbers of infections, ICU admissions, deaths, and less support for those most vulnerable to Covid.

Just as importantly, Canada did a better job than the United States in keeping politics out of a health crisis and that's why it has outperformed the United States in the Covid Health Crisis...still is.

For me personally it's the best country on the planet; that belief tends to get strengthened when I travel. Certainly there are other countries with similar strengths but the US isn't one of them for me because of what I value in my life. But we all value what makes a country great differently. If someone wants to pursue riches above other factors the US has it's merits.

I greatly value the freedom to make my way around most of this city with negligible chances of being shot or robbed. I value the diversity here and that it was a great place to raise kids. I like the clean air, mostly reliable grid, open spaces, community values, and Canadian sports. The lack of risk taking in business and relatively close doors in many corps is a long term problem, as was high taxes until the late 1990s. Canada has improved in these areas but still plenty of room to grow. Many young people leave because of this. Some come back once they are established. Canadian corps need to adapt or lose in this global economy.

The issue I have with those living in the United States that then come here to Elitetrader.com is their constant bitching/complaining about issues in the United States and then the same individuals act as if the United States is better than Canada.

Most of those idiots here in the political section that bitch so much politics, athletes, someone different than them, urban crime, liberals, and on and on...what keeps them living in the United States ???

Seriously, if they don't like the United States...they should just leave the country.

I myself enjoy both the United States and Canada by maintaining residences in both countries. If I had the need to rag on one of them the way these idiots do about their own country the United States here at Elitetrader.com...I would not be living in the United States if it's really that bad to them.

Back to this thread topic...if anyone doesn't know how countries negotiate the release of their citizens that are held prisoner in another country...they should see the movie Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks. It gives a small insight into how complicated the process is to gain the release of an American citizen and then use it to gain the release of another American citizen.

It's a true story about a Russian spy arrested in America in the late 1950s and then exchange for an American pilot shot down over Russia but a lawyer convinced the justice system to sentence the Russian spy to 30 years instead of the death penalty just in case he may be needed one day to negotiate (an exchange) for an American at a later date...anyways...a good movie and some of the exchange tactics are still occurring today.

Getting Brittney Griner released (the lowest hanging fruit) will get them closer to negotiating the release of other Americans imprisoned in Russia for crimes worst than Griner's.

Simply, you take what you can get and then use it to get others that America wants back home. In fact, Griner is from a military family, and it's an issue that she herself raised as in using her own release to get others back home that have been imprisoned far longer than her.

Now imagine if she encourages others to protest and boycott Women's Basketball in Russia...something the U.S. could not have done without someone like her that can gather more voices in requesting the release of other Americans and bringing other global voices to the issue.
    • The U.S. now needs to do is capture someone else that is very important to Russia. :D
I wouldn't be surprised that those involved in getting Griner released will be involved in getting the other Americans released...stuff we will not be hearing about.
