Did Axelrod make the argument for Smaller Government?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by JamesL, May 15, 2013.

  1. Size of government is really two different things. One being actual bodies employed, which is bloated because of inefficiencies and the other, bigger problem IMO, is the reach of government into our personal lives. I suppose having an army of people helps facilitate that intrusion, but a small government can still be very intrusive. Their powers must be severely resrticted, large numbers or not.

Fair enough. Moves us back into the realm of opinion, which is where "government is too big" belongs.

Sure, I'll start. Any function the government performs that is not in the constitution or it's amendments should be disbanded and run at the state level.

  6. An overly intrusive goverment is bad for everyone regardless of opinion, as the AP is now finding out. Sooner or later they come for you.

Of course, but this only begs the question, as we all have different opinions on when government is "overly intrusive".

Which is why we should fall back on an accepted document such as the Constitution to define purpose of government.

You're an ideologue. In theory what you say is great, like "stay on the gold standard", but the world does not let these ideas get in the way of practicality. The gold standard was abandoned because it's a straightjacket, and government has grown faster than the Constitution has changed because society is changing faster than the Constitution can be amended.

  10. Axelrod is the scum of the earth. He reminds one of a creepy pedophile head of the local PTA.
