Deval Patrick 2020

  1. Possibly. His game not mine.

But if he wants to be VP he ideally would be able to show that he has some reasonable level of acceptability and vote-getting ability even if it is not enough for the nomination. Although there is very long history with parties putting just unbelievably poor choices for VP on the ticket. He should at least show that he is a better choice for the obligatory black vp position than Stacey Abrams. Or at least that he is a moderate choice. You know aside from the problem of two women on the ticket, Warren hardly needs another far lefty for VP. She needs someone who can bring her back to earth a bit in balancing the ticket.

  2. Deval out there in New Hampshire giving the voters a chance to get to know him.

Not sure that is a good thing, but it's his campaign, not mine. Needless to say, his past scandals are predictably in his face again as previously discussed. I mean there was/is zero chance that they would not be an issue so he knew that going in.
Deval Patrick Calls His Sister’s Rape a ‘Relapse’

    During NH Campaign Stop
At a campaign stop in New Hampshire Monday, former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said he had no regrets about how he handled the case of his brother-in-law Bernard Sigh, a convicted rapist Patrick helped keep off his state’s sex offender registry — and he used the word “relapse” to describe Sigh’s subsequent rape of Patrick’s sister.

Patrick’s troubled record regarding sexual assault and crimes against women has come under renewed scrutiny since he entered the race for the White House two weeks ago. Even left-leaning media outlets like HuffPo and the Boston Globe have raised questions about Patrick’s actions in the Sigh case.

In 1993, Patrick’s brother-in-law pled guilty to spousal rape of Patrick’s sister Rhonda and spent four months in a California prison. Eventually, the couple reconciled and moved to Massachusetts. During the heat of the 2006 campaign, the Boston Herald broke the news of Sigh’s rape and the fact that he hadn’t registered as a sex offender.

  4. Heh. Translation: "Don't be ridiculous, I am running for VP so I will not be attacking either Joe or Pokey anytime soon, unless it is just a light campaign kabuki dance that doesn't draw any blood. I ain't no Tulsi Gabbard."

Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) denied the notion that his recently launched presidential campaign is a critique of Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-Mass.) campaign in an interview on Tuesday.

"That's not my point. I'm trying to be very careful because I am enormously fond and respectful of Sen. Warren," Patrick said on CNN's "New Day."

    He's around. Working NH.

    Patrick outlined four themes:

    — “Opportunity Agenda,” focused on education, economic and infrastructure investment.

    — “Reform Agenda,” focused on health care, criminal justice, immigration and tax policy.

    — “Democracy Agenda,” with proposals to expand access to voting.

    — “Leadership Agenda,” which focuses on his views on America’s role globally.

Patrick also expresses support for eliminating the Electoral College and backs a universal national service program — proposals that, early on, helped South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s campaign stand out. Patrick proposes allowing individuals to receive free tuition and fees at a public college or university for every year they serve.

On health care, Patrick backs a public option within the Obama-era health law, “one that is free to some and low cost to others, and that could even be modeled on Medicare.”

His education proposals include free schooling from prekindergarten to community college, or the first two years of a four-year college, and allowing people to refinance their student loan debt.

On some issues, such as taxes, he’s among the more conservative in the field.

Patrick expresses support for raising the corporate tax rate to 25%, a stand that aligns him with Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

On other topics, including criminal justice and gun control, Patrick aligns with party orthodoxy. He proposes ending private prisons, decriminalizing marijuana, putting in place background checks, enacting a ban on assault weapons and approving a voluntary buyback program.

On immigration, he expresses support for providing a legal pathway to citizenship for young immigrants living in the country illegally who were brought here as children and for others in the United States without legal status. He does not want to eliminate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as some of his rivals have suggested, but would “overhaul” the agency.

One of the central issues in the campaign is climate change, but Patrick offers few details. He says only that “developing solar, wind and other generation alternatives, as well as ever better strategies for energy efficiency, is essential to moving quickly to a carbon-free future.”

Do you still think Pokey has it wrapped up, or have things changed?
I personally... I think Biden looked pretty damn good during that last debate. I have not read what the "experts" have said, but for now, my money's still on Joe. He tempered his anger with his strong sense of humor on some things. That's a wicked powerful thing. For the viewers at least.

  9. Oh, I don't use words like "wrapped up" with Pokey. She is a crappy candidate for all the reasons discussed, and her numbers suck and love for her is in the pits. (I have credited her for going out on the hunt though, so that is an area where she is ahead of Joe in skill). She was never any kind of shoo-in nor has she ever remotely come close to having anything wrapped up. Her strength is and has been to survive a shake-down when all the other candidates collapse from votes being spread out, and/or we go to a brokered convention. If she can. But that is her strength, to prevail when they settle on the lowest common denominator.

Biden's numbers are through the roof, and have held there, and Pokey is in the toilet.

My prediction for nominee is: Elizabeth Warren.
