NewEgg Build your own, if for nothing else than the education (it is actually extremely simple) just google some tutorials...

Pre-builts... lenovo, Asus, Dell outlets.... Just keep watching for deals from fatwallet and bens bargains etc....

The more software you run, the higher chances are that you will have problems. Despite you having 8 threads, one multi-threading app can hoard all the CPU time in a conflict situation and all that power will go to waste.

For myself, I rather minimize the number apps running when I know CPU time is critical to trading. Keeping an eye on what's running in the background is very important for not just performance but also security.

I agree that the difference in price is insignificant but a Ferrari in a traffic jam is still just a car not going anywhere.

The laptop I do email was topping 100% CPU after I had both 64/32 Window7 reinstall and that was at idle, so I had Windows 10 put on and it seems to take much less resources always under 10% at idle now. But I have noticed that downloading a couple security programs, Internet would not work, so both times doing System Restore it came back just like it never happened. I tried AdvantageCare 8.0 and CCleaner. It is happy with Avast, Revo Uninstaller and Spybot. My charting and platform laptops are still on Window 7, but I do notice window 10 just seems faster.

I never did much of getting hacks, always thought that be more of if I did bad towards others, I can expect bad coming back at me. Stuff is so much cheaper than 20 years ago.

  4. The question should be "why are you asking, as you already own it". But this is typical.
You will be more than fine. Any seasoned, good trader will tell you that some of his best trades were done on a celeron laptop when they least expected it.
Good luck, go slow, go for only singles hits, and practice sitting on your hands.
The trades you don't do will be your friend.
Good luck again and may the trading Gods be with you.
    Kindest Regards,

Desktops suit me as I can change any of the parts easily. Not a recurring problem with batteries. During trading hours, most of us usually do not move too much or too far. My perception is that with the same configuration, a desktop's response is better compared to its counterpart. Am I right? If so, wondering why traders would need laptops.

  7. I agree d80.

The OP is same as saying "How good should my desk and fountainpen, to study well".

d80 is saying, it is enough to buy a used desk and pencil with average price, to study well enough to pass bar exam.
