Java isn't the issue. ThinkOrSwim is built on Java and it's responsive. I built my own software on Java for charting, scanning, trade recommendation, semi-automated order entry, and portfolio management and I don't have any issues with lag. I've even thought about offering parts of the software as a subscription product, but I figure if it is as useful to others as it is to me, then larger brokers would just copy it.
