Well to the first part of your answer--- ok. Yeah he should say that. To the second part, did he send out goons and arrest peaceful BLM protestors, or is that you just voicing an opinion?
DeSantis and his crony GOP legislature in Florida even passed laws saying you are not allowed to protest — but he selectively applies it only against protests he does not like. This has been discussed previously on ET.
Uhhhh, two things. One... most things in general have been previously discussed on ET. And two, FL HB1571 bans protesting outside a private residence, a good law. Are you aware of another one I'm not? Governor Ron DeSantis Protects Floridians from Protests Outside Their Homes On May 16, 2022, in News Releases, by Staff TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 1571, which prohibits picketing and protesting outside of a person’s place of residence.
A quick google search says otherwise btw. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis condemns Nazi rally in Orange County State law enforcement will hold self-proclaimed Nazis accountable, DeSantis says More than a dozen self-proclaimed Nazis yelled antisemitic slogans outside a Florida shopping plaza and waved a swastika flag from a highway overpass over the weekend. (Copyright 2022 by WKMG ClickOrlando - All rights reserved.) ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis condemned the recent pair of antisemitic gatherings held around an Orlando shopping plaza and a highway overpass while speaking at a Palm Beach County news briefing Monday afternoon. The two incidents occurred this past weekend at an intersection at Waterford Lakes near the University of Central Florida on Saturday and on a highway overpass in Orange County on Sunday. [TRENDING: Leaders condemn anti-Semitic behavior from demonstrators in Orange County | Elon Musk offers UCF student $5K to take down his Twitter account | Become a News 6 Insider (it’s free!)] More than a dozen Nazis waved swastika flags and shouted antisemitic slogans at the overpass before being disbanded by law enforcement. “First of all, state law enforcement is going to hold them accountable because they were doing stuff on the overpass. So they’re gonna absolutely going to do that, and they should do that,” DeSantis said. DeSantis went on to say Florida is one of the No. 1 destinations for “Orthodox Jews” because the state “(provides) tremendous support,” as far as business and education goes, and will continue to do so.
So WAY BACK in January of 2022 -- after being harshly criticized by members of his own party -- Ron DeSantis made a few comments condemning a Nazi rally. Of course, despite neo-Nazis rallying nearly every week in Florida since them, Ron DeSantis has not said a damn word condemning them. He has remained silent. I will note despite what Ron said -- state law enforcement never held these Nazis accountable.
You said he "never" denounced them. He did, and he did it while being Governor. I didn't know your statement included an implicit calendar constraint. That was just the top of the Google search. Didn't care enough to look deeper; he denounced them. ~Case closed.
Yeah, you seemed to miss that there is an entire string of bills in Florida disallowing protests. There is CS/HB1 which actually defunded police departments if they did not respond to a "riot or unlawful assembly in a specified manner" that met the governors approval (Hint: this means that the protest is from people not on the right). Plus many other measures. Numerous civil rights groups put out information on protecting your right to protest in Florida (for example - Florida’s Anti-Riot Law: What You Should Know About Protecting Your Right to Protest). Additionally, Florida Officials are Limiting Protest and Free Speech at Florida's State Capitol. Of course, if a group of people who generally vote Republican (for example - Cubans) protest and block roads then the law is not applied and no one is arrested. Palmetto Expressway protesters were ‘breaking the law.’ Questions rise on enforcement. Actually my issue in many instances is not the actual law. I support laws not allowing protests to block streets and not allowing protests outside private residences. My issue in Florida is the obvious selective enforcement of these laws. It all comes back to Ron DeSantis' authoritarian leadership.
