This would quickly end his GOP majority in the Florida legislature. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wants convicted child rapists to be given the death penalty https://www.unilad.com/news/florida...d-rapists-given-death-penalty-288670-20230418
So where in the GOP platform does it include targeting individual large businesses based on political whims? Just asking. DeSantis’ third strike against Disney shows what a powerful man with thin skin can do https://news.yahoo.com/desantis-third-strike-against-disney-222316889.html
I don't know whether it has been mentioned in one of these threads but.......... One of Ron's absolute richest and absolute firmest and absolute loudest cheerleaders has been Ken Griffin/Citadel. Not only for Ron as Governor of Florida but for Ron as President. And when asked in an interview if there is any one area where he disagrees with DeSantis he answers by saying that he does not like the going after Disney. Ron's campaign, not mine. But he may want to watch his arse. Of course Trump is overplaying his hand on a dozen issues himself and needs to move on so that helps Ron a bit. The underlying issue for Ron, isn't really Disney- it is that he is finding that he is not going to be able to make an entire campaign out of the woke stuff. It can be a part but not the whole thing. Similarly for Trump, his entire campaign campaign cannot be about his legal injustices and victim stuff. It can be a part but it cannot be the whole thing.
Of course, Tubby has a few words for DeSantis... Christie knocks DeSantis on Disney, says it’s not ‘conservative’ to ‘punish’ corporations https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...-its-not-conservative-to-punish-corporations/
If Ron DeSantis could take a break from slap-boxing Disney, regulating drag shows and barnstorming the Midwest, perhaps he could turn his attention to fixing an ACTUAL problem facing Floridians: a massive homeowner's insurance crisis. But Ron doesn't really care about the residents of this state -- they are just pawns in his political narrative for national office. Florida insurance crisis has some homeowners eyeing an exit: ‘I almost had a heart attack’ https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/ins...-exit-i-almost-had-a-heart-attack/ar-AA19ZKu2
It's not looking very good for Ron as his conservative support magically evaporates and major funders back away. Looks like he got his a$$ kicked by a mouse. GOP critics pile on DeSantis over Disney feud: 'I don't think Ron DeSantis is a conservative' https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/gop-critics-pile-desantis-over-014007455.html Ron DeSantis' 'Megadonor Meltdown' Reportedly Has Republicans Looking to See Who Else Can Challenge Donald Trump https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ron-desantis-megadonor-meltdown-reportedly-192058458.html 'The wheels have come off': Florida editorial blasts DeSantis for threatening Disney with prison https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...ing-disney-with-prison/ar-AA1a2P51?li=BBnb7Kz
Because this is how authoritarians roll... Florida poised to make DeSantis’ travel records secret Open government advocates called it one of the worst ever proposed exemptions to the state’s much-lauded Sunshine Law. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/19/florida-desantis-travel-records-00092969
At this point DeSantis and his cronies are a laughable circus. With Mickey Mouse in the center kicking their asses while laughing his rear off. Well, it's a small world after all. DeSantis allies on Disney oversight board threaten company with taxes, rate hikes and affordable housing https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/19/politics/florida-disney-desantis/index.html
His own cronies are turning on him... but this is what happens in the end to all authoritarians. Florida GOP ‘Fed Up’ With DeSantis’ Pre-2024 Agenda: ‘We’re Not The Party of Cancel Culture’ https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...4-agenda-were-not-the-party-of-cancel-culture
The authoritarian's Disney threats are getting bland & boring. He needs to amp up the excitement by adding some innovative threats. Ron DeSantis needs more exciting Disney threats If he’s serious about cracking down, it’s time to cancel Dole Whips. https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/20...y-fight-ride-inspections-prison-iger-florida/ This whole Disney thing is embarrassing. Just pretend briefly that you wanted to run for president (terrible idea, don’t do it, the rapid aging alone is reason to avoid). But say you did. There are plenty of vote-getting moves that don’t include “demolish the Happiest Place on Earth,” “render the vile Mouse powerless” and “force average families to choose between me, a rather cold politician, and their fondest, most magical memories.” Strange, confusing and deeply unserious times! However, now that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has started scrapping with the most popular theme park in the world, also a behemoth employer in our fine state, he must come to the bleachers after school and assume a “Street Fighter” stance. Yes, he will say Disney started it by simply acknowledging the right of non-straight people to exist in schools. Uh, true? By now, you have read more about special taxing districts than you ever planned in your life, so I’ll try to consolidate. DeSantis’s latest moves include trying to invalidate this prank Disney did where it stole everyone’s underwear at the sleepover and put them in the freezer. Retaliation plans include projects that could force higher taxes on Disney; DeSantis teased the possibility of building a prison next to these celebrated family attractions. His team may say that was a joke. Hilarious! Also, he wants the state to inspect monorails and rides, which seems dangerously close to “regulation” and might be a good thing as long as the inspectors aren’t, like, Ursula the Sea Witch turning the trains into eels. Among the public, this melee has been as popular as that slow ride through the Epcot ball where we learn about Gutenberg’s printing press. Other states are courting Disney’s business, including North Carolina with — this is real — a proposed “Mickey’s Freedom Restoration Act.” Even some fellow Republicans have started to pretend they don’t see DeSantis in the grocery store. The key is to move swiftly to the produce area and linger, squeezing avocados. Only then can you break the aisle cycle. Disney, for its part, appears largely unbothered as the lawyers do their jobs, paid mightily while dressed as the Walrus from “Alice in Wonderland” (probably, just guessing). Now, to prove his commitment to this featherbrained endeavor, DeSantis has to step it up to come out of this with the villagers singing a victory song. Here’s a smattering of threats for our governor to consider during the next six rounds of the news cycle: Position a medieval catapult outside the park gates and lay siege by launching multiple bags of dog doo-doo at Cinderella’s Castle. Picture that heart-stopping emergency alert test that went off statewide at 4:45 a.m. Thursday. Sorry to make you relive that. Now picture it all the time blaring through all the parks. Everyone would be miserable! Hahaha! This aligns with the campaign platform. Locusts? Does anyone have locusts? Or does that get into wildlife transport issues? Put a stop to the It’s a Small World ride due to flagrant diversity and inclusion efforts that clearly violate state law. Release thousands of marbles all over the ground near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Yes, I did repurpose this plotline from the iconic motion picture “Showgirls.” A mandated shutdown of all Dole Whip stands in the parks would show Disney who’s boss. It would also make guests hurl strollers across Adventureland in a blind rage, so please have state safety inspectors ready. No rainbows in the park, obviously. No, not rainbow merchandise. Actual rainbows. You know, reflection, refraction, dispersion of light, all that. The governor needs to get a committee together on this, ASAP. It is the most important issue facing the state.
