Biden expands lead to +13 over Trump in Florida, where Gov. DeSantis is now underwater thanks to a 31 point swing since April. July 23, 2020 - 79% In Florida Say Require Face Masks In Public, Coronavirus Handling Weighs On DeSantis, Trump Numbers, Quinnipiac University Florida Poll Finds; Biden Opens Up A Double-Digit Lead In 2020 Race https://poll.qu.edu/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=3668 With a surge of coronavirus cases in Florida making it a hotspot, voters say 79 - 20 percent that people in the state should be required to wear face masks in public, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea-ack) University poll of registered voters in Florida released today. There is overwhelming support for requiring face masks among all ages and every other listed demographic group. Eighty-three percent say the spread of the coronavirus is a serious problem in the state, while 16 percent say it is not. Seventy percent consider the spread of the coronavirus in Florida "out of control." Twenty-four percent say it is "under control." Looking back, 61 percent of voters think Governor Ron DeSantis reopened the economy "too quickly." Thirty-one percent think he reopened "at about the right pace" and 6 percent say he reopened "too slowly." When it comes, however, to whether voters think the governor should issue a stay-at-home order for the state to slow the spread of the coronavirus, they are split. Forty-nine percent say yes, while 48 percent say no. REOPENING OF SCHOOLS With the start of the school year approaching, more than six in ten voters, 62 to 33 percent, think it will be unsafe to send students to elementary, middle and high schools in the fall. Fifty-seven percent think it will be unsafe for students to return to college in the fall. Thirty-seven percent think it will be safe. Governor DeSantis is pressing to resume in-person classes in Florida for the start of the school year and President Trump is doing the same nationwide. Voters disapprove of those plans by wide margins. Governor DeSantis' handling of the reopening of schools: 56 percent disapprove, 37 percent approve. President Trump's handling of the reopening of schools: 59 percent disapprove, 36 percent approve. "DeSantis' commitment to putting students in classrooms in the fall is a non-starter with voters. From elementary school kids to collegians, Floridians are saying 'forget it,'" said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy. CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE Voters give Governor DeSantis a negative job approval for his handling of the response to the coronavirus, as 38 percent approve, while 57 percent disapprove. JOB APPROVALS Governor DeSantis receives a negative 41 - 52 percent job approval, a 31-point swing in the net approval from April when he received a positive 53 - 33 percent job approval rating. Today's numbers are the lowest for DeSantis since taking office in 2019. "Just a few months ago, Florida was a safe harbor for COVID refugees from up North. Now, it registers a startling number of infections and the numbers say the buck stops at Governor DeSantis' desk in Tallahassee," Malloy added. President Trump receives a negative 40 - 58 percent job approval in Florida, down from a 45 - 51 percent approval rating in April. Senator Rick Scott receives a mixed job approval with 41 percent approving, and 44 percent disapproving. Senator Marco Rubio also receives a mixed job approval with 40 percent approving, and 44 percent disapproving. 2020 ELECTION In the race for the White House, former Vice President Joe Biden opens up a big lead over President Trump. Voters back Biden 51 - 38 percent over Trump. In an April 22nd poll, it was close with Biden at 46 percent and Trump at 42 percent. Democrats back Biden 89 - 2 percent, independents back Biden 48 - 32 percent, compared to 44 - 37 percent in April, and Republicans back Trump 88 - 10 percent. "The president doesn't escape the shifting moods and concerns of voters in Florida. His sagging numbers are a gut punch from one of the key states he keenly hopes to win," Malloy added. BIDEN VS. TRUMP: THE ISSUES In five direct matchups, the President scores his best numbers on the economy, while Biden holds wide leads on handling a crisis, health care, response to the coronavirus, and addressing racial inequality. I think people have to realize that in polling like this, people are showing thier opinion on Trump doing a shitty job, not necessarily that Biden would have done an amazing job, just much better than Trump. the way the questions are asked, that is enough for people to answer and may also lead to their voting pattern in Nov if things do not change.
The truth in this poll is in the Confederate statues question. That’s a constant number and gives good credibility to rest of the polls findings. People are very unhappy in Florida. You can’t be a rational person and not realize the state is on fire right now. I would expect DeSantis and the Trump Administration to take some action on Covid in Florida very soon. This poll had to hit them like a Mack truck.
Easy to note the positively giddy responses in the thread to the Florida numbers, so lets get the usual out of the way so we can actually look at real data and not political narratives, shall we? I'll even bold it, because its just that important. DeSantis is Satan incarnate. He will burn in hell for causing Florida to die and Trump will follow in his footsteps. Everyone over the age of 20 in Florida will die because of him, and children will be left without parents. Floridians will be begging for food as a total collapse of the economy occurs and DeSantis is to blame for all of it. He has intentionally manipulated all the data to tell a good story and should be locked up for his crimes. Hopefully that covers it. So lets actually look at what is really going on now that we got the important stuff out of the way. Daily cases in Florida - as reported - are showing a flattening. It is still too early to tell as to whether or not this will simply be a pause before a further increase in case count, but local actions in major hot spots - which are essentially Miami and surrounding municipalities - seem to be having their effect. The 7 Day MA shows a topping, but again, this could easily change so caution is warranted here. Deaths continue to increase, with Florida reporting yesterday the largest number of deaths in a single day yet (173). This is obviously one day delayed in reported (as the media reported this number yesterday and Worldometers picked up on it one day later). It is also important to remember that the majority of these people died anywhere between yesterday and 2 weeks ago. This is important because it shows a different curve when properly plotted. It does not improve the overall count on Covid deaths. To get a look how this changes the curve, we need to look at the Florida portal (yes, I know, I am an apostate of the DeSantis is evil cult for showing this - I promise to pray at the altar of Pelosi later today to atone) as this is where the deaths are reported by date of death. Please note that dates in the last few bars will continue to increase as more deaths come in (from delayed reporting). Considering that deaths tend to peak a few weeks after case counts peak, and IF (again, this is IF) the case counts are truly peaking, then we should expect a peak somewhere mid August. Remember that total deaths, all causes for Florida - while rising on a weekly count - is still below the 2017/18 Flu season. That is a very important point that no one in the fear culture wants to talk about. It is ALSO important to consider that an average of 4 to 5 thousand people die every week in Florida from all causes and have since the CDC started collecting the data years ago. And we still see the same range over the first 7 months of the year. Case testing continues at previous ranges. But Percent Positive for new cases is at the lower end of the 2 week range. Please note that this simply isn't enough time to get excited about, but merely another data point in concert with the possible cases leveling off. ER/ED admissions based on complaint statistics show a significant improvement as of late. Why is this such a big deal? Several factors. First, it would appear the younger cohort is making up the majority of cases (seen in the bottom chart) and the trend of admissions obviously means the burden on healthcare continues to ease. it is worth noting that some testing centers are still reporting 100% positives in their testing data. Florida still hasn't figured this out. As of yesterday's report: Lastly, the infection rate continues to drop, which is very important. Give credit to mask wearing, or more cautious behavior or whatever you want, but make sure you keep blaming DeSantis for everything bad.
But that's what we do, gwb. In today's world, someone starts with an idea and we keep pushing the envelope until the offending party is canceled completely, right?
Closer look at Florida's COVID-19 reporting Florida is facing growing questions and criticism over how it calculates and reports COVID-19 data. The latest controversy involved PanCare of Florida, a non-profit health organization that runs testing sites in Northwest Florida. https://www.fox13news.com/video/833505 Link is a video.... testing organizations claim that the state is deliberately only counting negative tests but not counting positive tests - the report mentions PanCare as the latest organization making this claim. According the the video this is the 7th recent data issue. Six of the issues are caused by the state, the other one is people getting results when they did not take a test.
