There's legitimacy to being concerned on foreign ownership of land. After all, foreigners can't own land in Mexico because the last time Mexico allowed Steve Austin to have some, his settlers refuse to assimilate to Mexican law and give up their slaves, resulting in Texan seceding and subsequent Mexican American war and loss of half its territory. The hypocrisy here is, we know who's been courting foreign land buyers, and it ain't progs running soup kitchens. So these assholes bring in foreign money and then do a 180, scapegoat, and pass laws to seize said land. It's double stealing basically. Now, are they going after Saudi owned assets? Qatari? I could see tweaking of the constitution that bars foreigners from countries that fail to conform to American norms of democracy and freedoms offered if we're so concerned w/nat. sec. Tweaking the visa provisions might be a much easier lift though.
China is not even in the top 10 of foreign land owners in the U.S. I understand the sensitivity to chinese but find it funny how NOW it is an issue for Ronnie running for president.. I believe there are already federal laws about foreign ownership of land near federal institutions.
How many of those foreign sovereigns are hostile to US interests? and again... In 2019, the US Department of Agriculture said that Chinese-linked entities owned at least 192,000 acres of farmland worth more than $1.9 billion. Florida was the state that attracted the heaviest volume of real estate purchases, according to figures provided by the NAR. It was the 14th consecutive year that foreign investors expressed the most interest in Sunshine State properties.
did china suddenly become hostile this year.....foreign investors means many others besides China... China is nto even in the top 8
China is becoming more and more hostile each year. And in the last 24 months, the marked uptick between China and Russia has been quite substantial. So, yeah, kinda. You're so desperate to push a narrative about DeSantis conveniently going after China now because of the 2024 election, that you completely ignore a correct action by a politician. At least Tony can put his partisanship behind him and stick to principles he agrees with. Whereas I go "better late than never" and applaud a politician - ANY politician - that puts American interests before that of other nations. Especially hostile ones.
