They may not have been "clammoring" for it, but it was certainly happening and a threat. As a resident voter in Florida, I'm totally for it.

In 2019, the US Department of Agriculture said that Chinese-linked entities owned at least 192,000 acres of farmland worth more than $1.9 billion.

Florida was the state that attracted the heaviest volume of real estate purchases, according to figures provided by the NAR. It was the 14th consecutive year that foreign investors expressed the most interest in Sunshine State properties.

Ok, so maybe the US and its constitutional protections on private property aren't for you. Plenty other countries offer those protections.

I am aware of supply and demand. Chinese are a cheap shot but tell DeSantis to ban BlackRock from buying up RE. Hell, tell Repugs. to pass regulation against all RE investors if you care about pricing and not make it about the Chinese.

Nevermind GOP RE firms are who sold the Chinese on parking money in US RE in the first place. Hell, Trump's own family goons were out there having seminars to do so. Ever since 'rona though, gotta hate on China man.

Why should we be conned by prejudice into taking out the competitors of RE American RE monopolies?

So much "winning" for this idiot. After meeting Meatball Ron face-to-face, one of the richest men on Earth decides that he won't give that moron a single $1

Blackstone Billionaire Declines to Back DeSantis After Meeting Him: Report
    https://www.thedailybeast.com/black...-to-back-florida-gov-ron-desantis-report-says

Stephen Schwarzman, the chief executive of Blackstone and a Republican megadonor, came out of a recent meeting with Ron DeSantis unconvinced of the Florida governor’s chances in 2024, according to Bloomberg News.

Schwarzman traveled to Tallahassee sometime over the last few weeks to assess the governor, people briefed on the matter told the outlet. Though the exact nature of the impression DeSantis made was unclear, it reportedly wasn’t enough to secure Schwarzman’s support.

A onetime backer of Donald Trump, Schwarzman disaffiliated himself from the former president last November, telling Axios, “It is time for the Republican Party to turn to a new generation of leaders and I intend to support one of them in the presidential primaries.”

Schwartzman has met nearly all of the current contenders for the Republican nomination, according to a Blackstone spokesperson, but people familiar with the matter said he remains undecided on any of them. A former colleague told Bloomberg that Schwarzman is only interested in supporting a winner.

You can side with with foreigners and investors.Ill side with Americans who cant afford rent and housing.Other than multi unit and commercial properties BlackRock and RE investors should not be allowed to properties imo.

I'm siding with equal protections under the law regardless of country origin, not necessarily agreeing with those laws. I don't have to agree w/the 2nd amendment provisions to object to the right wanting to take guns from trans by labeling them "mentally ill" for example.

As an aside, maybe open visas so we don't artificially prop up RE firms:

You are harping on the country of origin thing.I like what Desantis did on the principle that foreigners should not be allowed to buy residential property in The US when we don't have enough for our own citizens,be they from UK,France,Mexico,Africa or China etc.

I'm harping at the country of origin thing? You quoted a DeSantis headline that explicitly says he doesn't want Chinese to buy up properties.

    FWIW:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation Monday that prevents certain foreign nationals from China and six other countries from purchasing what the state deems sensitive American land.

We've already ruled that foreigners aren't eligible for due process, or 2nd amendment protections (under certain conditions)....to some degree even first amendment rules. I don't see why we need to erode private property protections because we cap visas and the investor/RE loophole is there as a result. It does nothing to curb RE domestic speculation other than take out their competitors.

You should. It's blatant xenophobic pandering:

In addition to China, the law will also prohibit citizens of Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and Syria from buying farmland or any property within 10 miles of a military installation, a seaport or an airport.

    • People from China who aren't U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents will be barred from owning Florida property altogether.
    • Anyone knowingly selling land in violation of the new regulations is liable to civil and criminal penalties. The legislation also creates a mechanism for the property to be forfeited to the state.
