"DeSantis for the win" - Florida has joined the 5 Million club in Covid cases. Still working hard to exceed Texas and California which have much higher populations. FL has exceeded a 5 million mark for COVID-19 cases in the U.S., with numbers still growing https://floridaphoenix.com/blog/fl-...-cases-in-the-u-s-with-numbers-still-growing/ COVID-19 cases in Florida have exceeded 5 million — higher than only California and Texas, according to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The most recent figure from the CDC for Florida is 5,303,818 cases, a cumulation of infections dating back to early 2020, when COVID-19 showed up and spread across the country, killing hundreds of thousands of people. Only two other states have exceeded the 5 million milestone: California’s figure is 7,570,538 for COVID-19 cases, and Texas is at 5,813,105, according to the CDC. The figure for New York’s cases, a combination of New York City and New York State, is 4,640,517 — the fourth highest number of COVID cases in the nation. Illinois is the 5th highest, at 2,773,362 cases. Across the United States, total COVID cases exceed 70 million, plus 769,153 new cases reported. Overall, 862,494 people have died, plus 3,506 new deaths reported, based on Jan. 23 CDC data. Florida ranks third for total deaths, at 63,576. California is at 77,722 and Texas is at 76,612 deaths.
Florida cases are higher than all other states besides Texas and California? Well, Florida is the third largest state in population, so that kinda figures. When ranked by cases per 1M pop, Florida overperforms, at #7. Dumb shit.
White House slams 'crazy' DeSantis after monoclonal antibodies shut down in Florida he White House tore into Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his plans to fight COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies after the Food and Drug Administration revoked authorization for the treatment. The new FDA policy only allows those "likely to have been infected with or exposed to a variant that is susceptible to these treatments" to receive the new medication, despite Florida's leadership advocating for its use.
Is there a reliable test that is readily available to the public that specifies the variant a person is infected with?
So how does Florida perform per capita when compared to California and Texas? Let's compare the large population states. It's sad that you think being number 7 is in anyway good.
There is a reliable test available to medical staffs who have an associated lab to do the testing -- you know the same fricken lab where you validate the patient tested positive for Covid before you provide monoclonal antibody treatment to them (something else Florida fails to do). Why doesn't Florida set this up before they give someone monoclonal antibody treatment. You know like most other states did. But wait... DeSantis is firmly against collecting and reporting variant data.
What is sad is your understanding of statistics. The top three states in population would logically be the top three states in total number of cases. We should be able to agree on that, right? Unless you've got some lunatic theory on why this wouldn't be true. So lets put that to bed first - you posted an article blaring about how Florida passed the 5M case mark, just under Texas and California. I told you this isn't surprising. You think it IS surprising because you're a fucking idiot. So then, when I show you that Florida is actually ranked #7 in terms of cases per 1M, you immediately pivot and say "how is Florida compared to Texas and California in cases per 1M" figuring that if Florida is worse than them, it somehow means Florida is bad. Again, you're a fucking idiot. Florida is worse than California and Texas in cases per 1M, but that doesn't mean that Florida is bad. All it means is that Cali and Texas over performed to their population count, and so did Florida, but Florida's over performance isn't as good as Texas and California. But Florida still over performed. Get a clue before you open that ridiculous trash bin that sits right below your nose.
Show proof that other states have a testing site that tests for variants before providing MAB treatment, and then show that Florida does not do this. You know, like you just stated. Then, consider that the White House isn't saying "we will give these to you but want to make sure you are using it for Delta" instead of saying what they are ACTUALLY saying, which is "we are pulling all of these treatments regardless of the variant".
In most states including North Carolina you must be referred by your primary care physician or a hospital for monoclonal antibody treatment -- part of the process is proof of a positive Covid test ordered by the medical provider which includes the lab processing the sample for type. How difficult is this for you to understand? It is basic medical procedure. Most states are not like Florida where any idiot can walk into a pop-up monoclonal antibody treatment center being hosted in an unsterile library or mall cafeteria -- and demand monoclonal antibody treatment.
