DeSantis proposes a new civilian military force in Florida that he would control https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/02/politics/florida-state-guard-desantis/index.html
DeSanta wants to fight and bite the very hand that feeds him... . while Floridians are dying by the thousands , on his watch. ‘What wannabe totalitarian, fascist dictators do’: Alarm over DeSantis move to form his own ‘personal militia’ "DeSantis also said this unit, called the Florida State Guard, would be 'not encumbered by the federal government.' He said this force would give him 'the flexibility and the ability needed to respond to events in our state in the most effective way possible.'" Also being seen as one more potential attack on science during the coronavirus pandemic era. All National Guard members must be vaccinated. DeSantis opposes all vaccine and mask mandates and has invited unvaccinated, fired police officers from others states to move to Florida – and offering them a $5000 payment.
Again, 23 states have a state guard that isn't encumbered by the federal government, already. Florida would be the 24th. But DeSantis!
I would like to have a military unit in my state run by DeSantis. The feds and the state where I am certainly are not protecting anyone.
Once again -- the map put up by the CDC is due to Florida failing to report Covid data properly and it was removed. Misleading COVID-19 map from CDC left out data for Florida, changed overnight https://www.orlandosentinel.com/cor...0211203-idjcioasyreqbjjmfecd4kgvye-story.html A widely shared but misleading federal map that drew national attention for painting a sunny picture of COVID-19 in Florida was finally updated — demonstrating how incomplete the data behind the map has been for days. The map, published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, had presented Florida as the only state in the U.S. with low transmission levels. People shared the map in dozens of posts on social media — presenting it as proof of how safe Florida is compared to the rest of the nation. The map also was included in an article about COVID cases bottoming out in Florida, which was shared in a Twitter post by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary. Then in one sudden swoop Thursday, the updated information recast the map, shifting nearly all of Florida’s counties from the “low transmission level” category to moderate or even substantial levels. On Wednesday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel first reported that Florida’s community transmission levels by county had not been updated since Thanksgiving, skewing the state’s 7-day average downward and giving the appearance Florida was the safest state in the nation. Florida’s community transmission data updates weekly on Thursday on the CDC map. A spokesperson for the CDC told the Sun Sentinel that Florida did not report its case numbers on Thanksgiving, causing a one-week lag that distorted the map. (More at above url)
The answer is that Florida needs to responsibly report all of its COVID on time and appropriately. Florida needs to stop hiding data such as variants and hospitalization counts -- and also provide all data on deaths, etc. directly to its residents -- rather than expecting the CDC to do their work trying to puzzle together incomplete, late data reported by Florida at irregular intervals. Keep in mind that DeSantis is directly responsible for this problem.
