DeSantis is on track to greatly exceed CDC's Covid death toll projection for Thanksgiving week. What a "winner".

As outlined by the Miami Herald, Florida is exceeding the CDC's Death Forecast for the number of COVID deaths during Thanksgiving week. From hospital information and other calculation sources -- Florida is enduring COVID 56 deaths per day during the Thanksgiving week -- exceeding the CDC's projection of a mere 279 COVID deaths total of the week in the state.

Florida COVID update: 1,632 new cases added; more people in the hospital
    https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article256226207.html

Florida reported 1,632 COVID-19 cases and one new death on Monday, according to Tuesday’s report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on Miami Herald calculations of CDC data. In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,691,420 confirmed COVID cases and 61,539 deaths. The CDC did not release Florida COVID figures on Thanksgiving, Friday and Sunday, causing an artificially lower seven-day case and death average than where state averages currently stand.

Looking at these lower averages, in the past seven days the state has added 56 deaths and 1,230 cases per day on average, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.

About 13,184,332 eligible Floridians — 61.4% of the state’s population — have completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida

There were 1,228 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to a Tuesday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 227 Florida hospitals. Hospitalized COVID patients increased by 14 from Monday’s report, when 241 hospitals submitted data. COVID-19 patients take up 2.32% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 2.29% reported in the previous day’s report. Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 274 people were in intensive care unit beds, an increase of 11. That represents about 4.47% of the state’s ICU hospital beds, compared to 4.59% the previous day. The Miami-Dade County report no longer includes hospitalization information. Broward County’s Monday report said there were 86 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of one from the previous day’s report.

Post Florida compared to the other 49 states (you, of course, won't). Lets see who's doing well.

Let's see what Ron DeSantis is doing with the Florida State Gas Tax after his employee Kyle Lamb stated it could not be lowered because it is tied to CPI. Under political pressure across the state about his state gas tax increase -- DeSantis finally is taking some action -- which also proved his critics were correct in their assertions.

Florida governor proposes $1 billion in gas tax relief

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling on state lawmakers to provide motorists with some relief at the fuel pump via a gas tax holiday.

The state now collects 18.5 cents per gallon on gas and diesel purchases. The tax rate is adjusted annually based on the National Consumer Price Index.

Another 8 cents is collected via the State Comprehensive Enhanced Transportation System tax rate.

In total, the gas and diesel rates are 26.5 cents.

The Florida Department of Revenue has announced that an increase of 0.58 cents is set for the first of the year.

    Possible gas tax relief
Five weeks before the expected rate increases, DeSantis has announced his pursuit of a six-month gas tax holiday.

He says the relief is necessary to help offset rising fuel prices.

“Gas prices have been rising due to inflationary pressures from bad federal policies, so we here in Florida need to step up and provide relief to our citizens,” DeSantis said in a news release.

The tax holiday is touted to provide more than $1 billion in gas tax relief. He says it would save the average Florida family up to $200.

DeSantis did not set a date for when he’d like the relief to begin, but said he would work with state lawmakers on specifics. Lowering the diesel tax has not been included in the proposal.

The issue can be considered during the 2022 regular session.

So DeSantis is doing right or doing bad today, according to your obsessed perspective?

Actually with the gas tax he is doing the right thing in my opinion. It's just sad that he had his staff lie and claim it is tied to CPI and the governor couldn't do a thing about it. And only when the political outcry among consumers across the state rose to a high level he reversed course and attempted to take action.

But its ok for Nikki Fried to claim that DeSantis is raising the gas tax on his state?

Which is exactly what he was doing. Yeah, I get it that she was doing it because she plans to run for governor. But it would have been better if he took action on the issue immediately and got in front of it... all the while taking credit for his actions. Ignoring the entire thing for two weeks while having his surrogates crank out turds was not really a good response.

Ah, I see. I just want to make sure I'm clear on how your badly wired brain works.

A tax law that was put in place well before DeSantis took office had a mechanism tying it to the CPI. DeSantis calls upon the Florida legislature to suspend these taxes to assist the citizens of his state - which you applaud.

But Nikki Fried - who by the way signs off on all of the gas pumps to confirm weights and measures and should know how the tax is designed - says that DeSantis is Raising Gas Taxes, while she is fully aware how the tax works, when it was put in place and that DeSantis has nothing to do with it (no more than any other governor does in the United States for any other state) and you agree.

Do I have this all correctly?

You seemed to miss the part where people in Florida were urging DeSantis to take action to not raise the gas tax for weeks before Nikki Fried tweeting anything out. We should note that the governors of many states over the decades have taken action with legislatures to suspend state gas tax increases. DeSantis could have easily gotten ahead of the problem and picked up a significant public perception victory here -- instead he had to reverse his position after a couple of weeks and look reactionary.

How many other governors have taken action or "gotten ahead" on fuel taxes thus far?

And how does one "reverse" a position one never had? Or do you have a stated quote from DeSantis calling for higher fuel taxes recently?
