WSJ article - paywall. There’s No Mystery in Florida’s Covid Reporting Media eager to target Gov. Ron DeSantis have a problem with the switch to a methodology many other states use. The media has hammered Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in recent weeks for his handling of Covid as hospitalizations in the state have surged. Fair enough. But some coverage has been downright deceptive. Particularly dishonest was a Miami Herald article on Aug. 31 with the headline “Florida changed its Covid-19 data, creating an ‘artificial decline’ in recent deaths.” The Herald’s claims were amplified by the national media as smoking-gun evidence that Mr. DeSantis deceived the public on the Covid death toll in Florida. The insinuation is that Mr. DeSantis has become the Andrew Cuomo of the South.... (more after jump)
Welcome to DeSantis' Florida... Inside a Florida Hospital Full of Dying, Unvaxxed Thirtysomethings ‘It’s a Nightmare’ “I’ve never bagged so many thirtysomething-year-olds, leaving behind young kids, pregnant wives,” one nurse said. https://www.thedailybeast.com/insid...-unvaccinated-30-somethings-dying-of-covid-19
Some "anonymous" nurse. Uh huh. If hospitals are truly running out of space/beds, they probably shouldn't have let so many go during the crisis. They probably shouldn't be firing nurses who don't want to vaccinate. They probably should be looking to expand facilities and such. It is not my responsibility - or that of my child - to ensure there is enough space in a hospital.
"DeSantis for the win" -- New Day, New Record -- record Florida deaths Support for DeSantis and Abbott drops even further as COVID hospitalizations soar https://www.rawstory.com/desantis-abbott-approval-drops-further/ Support for Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Republican Greg Abbott is continuing to nosedive as the COVID-19 crises in the Sunshine State and Lone Star State grow. With hospitalizations remaining at dangerously high levels, schools districts are already preparing to fight the DeSantis mask bans in court and vaccines are growing increasingly politicized. Florida also set a record for COVID cases on Thursday. (More at above url)
If Florida were a country, where would it rank in fighting COVID? | Analysis With the delta variant spreading, it’s a good time to make some COVID comparisons. https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/20...re-would-it-rank-in-fighting-covid-editorial/
"The picture gets worse for Florida when looking at just the last month." Of course it does. You're counting Florida after it went through its 3rd wave while simultaneously not counting everywhere else before they go through their 3rd. This is what is called "a narrative".
So you think all the northern states with much higher vaccination rates are going to endure a similar situation as Florida when the Delta wave hits them this fall? You think they will have similar case, hospitalization, and death rates to what Florida is contenting with now? Let's get you on the record about this. I don't doubt for a minute that other states will soon be enduring a Delta wave which will peak in the fall. But I don't believe it will be bad as what Florida is contending with in terms of rates of hospitalizations and deaths.
Yes, I do. I think when all is said and done, the overall COVID numbers will be relatively the same in the North. In some states, it will be better, and in some it will be worse. The only question I have for you is, what will YOU say if it is as bad? Will you change your tune or stubbornly hold to flawed principles? Will it be DeSantis' fault there, too?
Florida was one of the primary starting points of Delta in the U.S. DeSantis refused to report on variants in Florida. The wide initial spread of Delta Covid to other states is his responsibility -- he failed to take any measures to stop it & even did everything possible to pretend it did not exist. For example - as documented -- the first thirty something Delta cases in North Carolina were all directly associated with people who traveled to Florida and brought it back.
