Cuomo was a serial groper, a liar and a manslaughterer. Ron DeSantis has been exemplary in every regard, is a family man and hasn't the remotest hint of scandal.

The man opened a antibody treatment clinic yesterday. Its something like that nearly every day. He is energetic and has an internal moral compass, thank God.

  2. Then let him focus on FL first and stop trying to cater to the MAGA base for his run to 2024 as he is peaking way too early.

His actions against private businesses are embarrassing because it was simply to cater to his base rather than in the interests of Floridians. Aligning with Trump will not be a winning idea in 2022 and 2024 if the GOP wants to reclaim power. He is on TV as much as Cuomo is spouting out bullshit so just because he has no personal life scandals does not absolve him from political stupidity. Not having scandals is not a badge of honor it is expected and you are not rewarded for not groping women :).

Attacking the school system and the cruise ships and websites is pure trump script so it shows blind sheep following. People are getting sick in larger numebrs and the schools are close closing down again. Time to step up and stop trying to win 2024 but take care of FL.

you're forgetting sending armed goons weapons drawn to silence a critic and giving carte blanche to vigilantism in roadways unless Cuban.

DeathSantis is in the closet and should come out. He's also pandering to his Regeneron lobbyists and doing their bidding.

Apparently DeSantis' kill count is not high enough - He refuses to require that at-risk nursing home residents and staff get vaccinated -- despite pleas from the AARP to do so.

Florida AARP urging Gov. DeSantis to mandate vaccine for nursing care staff, residents

Gov. Ron DeSantis opened two more of the projected 20 Regeneron treatment clinics to fight COVID-19.

“You will reduce your chance of being hospitalized by about 70%,” DeSantis said.

“Treatment for this disease appears to be improving,” AARP’s Jeff Johnson said.

Johnson said vaccination rates in Florida are trailing the rest of America.

Around 72% of long-term care residents have gotten their shots, making it the third-worst in the nation. Only 45% or staff are vaccinated, the second-worst in the nation.

That's why AARP is urging the Governor to mandate vaccinations for all nursing care staff and residents.

“Let's get people vaccinated and especially those who are in contact with the people who are most at risk,” Johnson said.

The operators of long-term care centers say they are doing everything they can to encourage employees and residents to get vaccinated. At the Gardens at DePugh Nursing Center, they paid $1,000 bonuses to employees who received their COVID-19 shots, but they don’t support mandatory vaccinations.

“They just didn't do their homework! It's unrealistic. We're in a nursing crisis,” Liz Barton said.

Barton and Rick Baldwin, the executive director and the chair of the nursing home, said they're already struggling to fill positions without adding a new requirement.

“The board has agreed with management that we need to keep this place staffed,” Baldwin said.

Lourdes Taboada is an essential caregiver for her 89-year-old mother. She doesn't agree with a vaccine mandate.

“I don't want the government to tell me what to do or any government agency to tell me what to do,” Toboada said.

While Florida nursing home deaths are down, the percent of positive cases is triple the national average.

A spokeswoman from the DeSantis' office told WESH 2 News DeSantis is not considering a vaccine mandate for nursing home staff or residents.

The governor has not responded to the Biden administration vaccine mandate for staff, which could be required as soon as next month.

As noted earlier, yesterday (August 18th) was the earliest which the current COVID wave would peak in Florida according to a model from the University of Florida. Of course, other models from USF have the peak out at August 31st.

However all of these models are based on the U.K. Delta experience (which has a much higher vaccination rate) and make a number of assumptions - including no new mass gathering indoor events (e.g. schools opening), expected an increase in people voluntarily taking precautions (masks & social distancing), an increase in vaccinations (which has happened in FL), assumes no new variants (this wave is Delta based), and the Delta variant had an R factor of 5 (which may be low).

Sadly Florida is not showing signs of peaking this week as cases and hospitalizations continue to climb. This means that predictions for the peak for Delta to occur later towards October from the COVID Modeling Hub and other models are becoming a more likely scenario -- which means many more cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in Florida (and across the U.S.) in the coming weeks which is unfortunate.

All of this is directly correlated with failed public health policies of particular governors. These governors are pushing policies and narrative designed to fire up their political base rather than to protect their residents' health. All of this has lead to quickly increasing cases, overwhelmed hospitals, and increasing deaths among a younger population -- all the while these governors have not been supporting vaccination campaigns which would prevent much of the misery since over 97% of the cases are among the unvaccinated.

Florida county declares pandemic state of emergency amid hospital resource shortage

A Florida county voted unanimously on Tuesday to declare a state of emergency as hospitals are becoming increasingly strained amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay proposed issuing the emergency order after all 12 beds in the intensive care unit (ICU) at a local medical center became occupied, 11 of which were for patients with COVID-19, according to NBC 5 WPTV.

McKinlay said that some ambulances have been forced to wait outside hospitals for hours with sick patients because emergency rooms are full.

The shortage of ICU beds reportedly forced medical workers to send emergency room patients to facilities in Miami, Orlando and other cities in the state.

In some cases, however, neighboring hospitals have not taken in extra patients. Darcy Davis, the CEO of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, recalled one instance in which Lakeside Medical Center called 13 hospitals in the county asking them to accept a COVID-19 patient, and none of them would.

“There are so many patients, it's overwhelming a lot of the hospitals,” Davis said, according to NBC 5 WPTV.

McKinlay on Tuesday, during the county commission meeting, said “we do not have the resources available right now in our community to address the needs in certain parts of our community,” NBC 5 WPTV reported.

Officials said the new emergency order will allow the county to bring in more medical workers from other areas of the state and country and will also instruct private health care systems to publish real-time data regarding the availability of COVID-19 hospital beds, according to the local news station.

Palm Beach County Health Director Alina Alonso reported that the county has seen 9,159 new COVID-19 cases from Aug. 6 through Aug. 12, a positivity rate of 17.8 percent, according to NBC 5 WPTV.

The figure marks a significant increase from numbers recorded from May 28 through June 3, which saw 719 new cases and a daily positivity rate of 3.2 percent, according to the local news station.

The state of emergency declaration is the second of its kind in Palm Beach County. The region was under such conditions from March 13, 2020, until June 26, 2021, when it was lifted as the spread of the virus decreased.

The new order comes as Florida and the U.S. as a whole are seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases, largely driven by the highly infectious delta variant.

The strain has taken hold as the most dominant variant in the country. The U.S. is now averaging more than 100,000 new coronavirus cases per day, which is significantly more than the roughly 12,000 daily new infections it was tracking in June, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  10. The Great DeSantis Legacy......

'Ron DeSantis owns this': Outrage erupts over 'horrific' photo showing COVID-19 patient on floor of treatment center
    upload_2021-8-19_20-2-21.png

Twitter users expressed shock and horror on Thursday over a viral photo showing a COVID-19 patient curled up on the floor while waiting for treatment at a Jacksonville monoclonal antibody treatment site.

Kailey Tracy, a reporter with First Coast News, said the city of Jacksonville (COJ) confirmed that the photo was taken at a monoclonal treatment center at the downtown library on Wednesday.

"Woman who posted picture to Reddit says her husband took it, saw people crying in pain. COJ says they were waiting for treatment, providing triple # of wheelchairs now," Tracy reported.
