"DeSantis for the win" - New Record Florida reports record high number of new Covid-19 cases this week https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/13/health/florida-covid-numbers-update/index.html Florida reported a new record number of Covid-19 cases Friday -- more over the past week than any other seven-day period during the pandemic. Data published Friday by the state health department showed 151,415 new Covid-19 cases over the past week, for an average of 21,630 cases each day. The previous record high was just a week ago -- on August 6 -- with 134,711 total cases reported over seven days, for an average of 19,244 cases each day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. With this latest update, Florida has the second-highest rate of new cases per capita, with just over 100 new cases per 100,000 people each day over the past week, behind only Louisiana. The US overall is averaging more than 37 new cases per 100,000 people each day. (More at above url)
Florida now averaging 54 new hospitalizations of kids getting Covid every day. Meanwhile, resident Covid Deniers on here still insist that Covid is totally harmless to children.
It is ugly out there. Wife is a fire medic and the situation on the ground (Tampa area) is brutal as there is very little capacity at hospitals and they are getting calls non-stop. Stations that are usually slow are getting slammed. Of course stations serving areas will low vaccination rates are getting hit the hardest.
It's ok just close your ears and send your kid(s) off to school without masks. Tell them Covid is just like a common cold mingle as you always did indoors. After all you've done the math and posted some charts online; give them your personal assurance they'll be fine. Same for the office. No restrictions, no precautions. If someone has the sniffles so what never stopped them from working in the past. Might as well encourage the whole office to get Covid right ? If someone keels over and dies well obviously they were predisposed to die. You can always just hire some new unvaccinated talent.
are we at the "Biden's busing sick illegals into Florida to hurt DeFascist politically" conspiracy stage yet?
These idiots are going to go bezerk at the next election, spewing more conspiracy theories bs then has ever been seen in the US. And when the results roll in they'll refuse to acknowledge the Republicans are screwed until they rework their entire approach. Meanwhile Covid eats away at their core voter group eliminating thousands of Republican voters. Ouch.
'He’s a dictator': Florida mayors complain Ron DeSantis won't take their phone calls during pandemic Florida mayors are growing increasingly exasperated by Gov. Ron DeSantis gathering "dictator" powers and refusing to take their phone calls. Local officials across the state -- including some Republicans -- expressed frustration with the governor's moves to prevent them from taking action against the coronavirus pandemic, and Hialeah's mayor condemned DeSantis for blocking him from imposing a mask mandate in his heavily Republican community, reported the Washington Post. "He's a dictator," said Mayor Carlos Hernandez, a Republican. "It's a shame because we're paying the price."
