Tourism would not be a factor is the local rules enforced protective measures. NYC... D.C. California all have tourism.... Disney World is probably the only place that still enforces social distancing and masks and vaccinating employees etc.. One look at FL at Spring Break and beaches and parties now show no attempts by local to enforce anything. Tourists follow local rules don't they...
Tourism is a choice during a pandemic. Getting vaccinated for most is a choice until very recently. Basically this new wave of Covid in Florida arose 100% because of choices you made as a community. In reality, you had easy access to vaccines a lot sooner then we had in Toronto, yet it's our area that had Covid cases drop like a rock in recent months not yours. Yes, I understand you'd rather stay ignorant and ignore the results elsewhere. It's a gamble your state chose and unfortunately it means some of your citizens will die or get a long term illness unnecessarily. In numbers that are too high to be fully excused.
Nobody kisses up more than sycophants trying to work for narcissists like DeSantis. DeSantis’ prolific Twitter advocate used an admiring email to land job in his office https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article253073608.html
Sorry, some of us consider personal freedoms and economic viability as part of the equation on a response to a pandemic - not just the simple case metric. I understand you don't, but fortunately for the world you aren't in charge. There are many, many Canadians I have seen ranting on Twitter about the stupidity of the process in Canada and Canada's response to the pandemic. Are they right? I don't know or care. I couldn't care less about Canada and the only time I every discuss it on this forum is after you bring it up (which happens every single time to my boredom). In Florida, DeSantis has become more and more popular because Floridians (and many outside Florida) see his decisions as sensical and taking into account science (the old science, not tEh sCiEncE we see today) and the economy. He has balanced decisions on the part of health and our lives and freedom well. Those that put the pandemic response above all other variables will consider his response poor (like you and your fellow pandemic acolytes like GWB). I understand that. I don't agree with it. At the end of the day, and since the pandemic began, Florida's numbers have been just as good if not better than many other states. Florida's economic comeback has been outstanding. If it wasn't, DeSantis wouldn't be so popular.
I'd bet the amount of tourism in 2020/21 due to California and NY being shut down absolutely pales in comparison to Florida. And the reason we got the tourists is because we weren't shut down. And we're just fine with it. Throw stones if you want from outside. We're fine with it. I'd just point you over to the deaths per 1M between the three states, and the economic snapback.
Is that from last summer? Could have sworn there was a tweet like that from almost a year ago exactly. Oooh...that gives me an idea.
