Florida -- #1 in COVID variants. No other state even comes close. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/transmission/variant-cases.html
And how is that affecting its death per 1M pop? Its cases per 1M pop? Its outstanding death per 100 nursing home residents or cases per 100 residents? Shouldn't we be dying in droves here ? The state has the highest % tourism in the nation, and we have been open for business for a long time. I'd expect this. But where's the bad?
So this interminable thread was a response to previous criticism of DeSantis' policy, along the lines you mention? Because the title does say, "for the win", and that part is not evident; covid driven job loss in FL is average, too.
Are deaths the main thing? How much money per capita is being spent on dramatic medical intervention? Does FL have more ventilators and medical capacity for the elderly, per capita, than other states? Probably, given its median age.
No, it's not the only thing. It's certainly the most important thing. But that's why I asked where Florida is going wrong. If they have such a horrible governor, then something should be horrible about the COVID results, right? If it is money per capita being spent on "dramatic medical intervention" then this should be evident as well. Is it? What number is Florida bad in? COVID mutations? Mosquito population per 100 residents? Humidity in July? Sure there is evidence we can find to point to how DeSantis has botched the COVID response that is so very obvious, given how bad the guy supposedly is. Or we can just keep posting news articles about what a bad man he is without any evidence of the "badness".
I disagree that death is the most important thing. Getting sick and being unable to run, lift, fuck, possibly for weeks, is way more important. Money spent per capita on covid medical intervention alone could be determined of course, but I've not seen such data posted for any state, or country for that matter. It's a fair guess FL has more stuff available to take care of old people, and they are as we know the most susceptible to the worst outcomes (so far). Really it looks like DeSantis flipped a coin and got lucky. Trump flipped a coin, too, but not so lucky.
I'm sorry, what? You believe that death would be better than "getting sick and being unable to run, life, fuck, possibly for weeks"? Or are you just trolling me? Perhaps. Or it could be that the things that were so important to be done weren't that important, and the virus was just going to be itself regardless.
While DeSantis is right that Florida has better mortality stats than the states he mentions, saying Congress bailed out these states at the expense of the Florida taxpayers is misleading - Florida was a state that got some of the most money in the stimulus bill. Though on a % share it did not (as the third most populous state).
Not at all. I take it for granted that when I'm dead I don't care that I'm dead. I would give that idea more weight if other states, both states that did more and states that did less did not appear above and below FL on the measures we've already mentioned.
