The land of the Free and Free thinkers. So yeah, I agree - unlikely to happen. Do we have more than our fair share of crazies? Yep. But we also have an awesome economy, protection over property and individual rights, great 2A support, very unfriendly laws for rioters, ANTIFA bullshit and the like, and no income tax! Heaven. Everything a liberal despises. Oh, and our kids go to school - have been - and our lives are essentially normal. And here's the kicker: We don't seem to be any worse off, and even better in many circumstances!
Those officials who have been making covid lockdowns and shutdowns without sharing the data supporting those edicts and decisions... should be removed from office. Its has been so deadly and irresponsible to be destroying kids lives because of fear when the data with respect to kids does not support that fear.
I would totally understand if the results showed the fruit of bad decisions by DeSantis. If we had the top (or even close to the top) death rate in the nation, or we destroyed our economy, etc. Fact is that Florida is positively BOOMING and people are moving here in droves, mostly from lockdown states. Florida is - as of today - number 27 in states when ranked by highest death per 1M pop, and Cases per 1M pop, Florida is ranked 29! Nursing home numbers? Some of the best in the country. Fantastic numbers for a state with - supposedly - the worst governor ever. So all GWB and detractors can do is claim data fraud. They've got no other alternatives and the Sunshine state continues to make them look like a horse's ass, day in and out.
Its amazing a. given the demographics probably skew older... (although that is changing) and... b. all the virus those moving in and visiting must be bringing. = To my mind there must be a few things at work. 2 of them are here: 1. Vitamin D particularly natural Vitamin D. (I think this is almost a given. People are going out and keep their D levels up.) 2. this is more speculative but a large group of those without pre existing conditions may have acquired immunities and perhaps as group they are keeping it longer or maybe even getting it refreshed because they are not being locked down and hiding.
This is not a knock on Florida: Florida has one of the lowest median incomes in America. A great many working Floridians are in economic hardship due to no fault of their own. However, Florida voters addressed this and got a $15 an hour minimum wage on the ballot and it passed (I’m sure you know this but for others’ benefit) The passage of this will help a lot of Floridians who aren’t seeing the “boom” realize some economic stability. I’m interested in this because Florida can lead a lot of “red” states into raising their minimum wage when they see it’s not the end of the world.
I think vit D plays a big part. But it would also do so in California and other western states like Arizona.
DeSantis pimped as the next Trump... Covid wars launch DeSantis into GOP ‘top tier’ The Florida governor’s clashes with the media and reluctance to embrace coronavirus restrictions are fueling conservative chatter about a 2024 presidential bid. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/16/covid-ron-desantis-2024-469071 “Republicans seem to want Trumpism done with attention to detail and an actual policy agenda," Moore said.
Trumpy trump trump and trump some more. trump trump! What "trumpism" is insofar as you and the media obsess over, is actually populism. And Populism is always a danger to the old world order (you) and group think.
The CDC guidelines demonstrate that not a single school can be safely opened in Florida due to high community spread. As found out in Europe schools should not be open when the community positive test rate using a science-based formula is above 10%. Of course, this is DeSantis' response to science. DeSantis Blasts CDC School Reopening Guidelines, as FIU Brings Staff Back to Campus https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local...s-as-fiu-brings-staff-back-to-campus/2383644/ The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new guidelines for reopening K-12 schools last week. In Florida, public schools have been open since October, with parents given the option of sending their kids to school or keeping them home for remote learning during this pandemic. “What the CDC put out, 5:00 on a Friday afternoon -- I wonder why they would do it then -- was quite frankly a disgrace. It would require, if you actually follow that, closing 90% of schools in the United States. We are open, we remain open, and we are not turning back,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis, without explaining or detailing which part of the guidelines were objectionable. The superintendents of Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Schools have each announced their support for the CDC guidelines, which are only recommendations. In a phone call this afternoon, Miami-Dade Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said the guidelines are there to make it easier for schools to open, not to shut down schools that are already open. He and Broward Superintendent Robert Runcie have said their district schools are already following almost all of the CDC guidelines. In a text message exchange Monday afternoon, Runcie said the only recommendation which causes some concern is the six-foot social distancing standard for children. He and Carvalho each agreed that keeping kids that far apart is nearly impossible, which is why their districts use the American Academy of Pediatrics standard of three feet of distance as long as everyone is wearing a mask. Meanwhile, FIU is coming back to life. Students told us when they walk around campus these days they see more activity and more classes offered in person now compared to the fall semester. The university administration is asking its employees who have been working at home to return to their on-campus offices and classrooms. “We are committed to evidence-based guidelines, we are committed to the safety and welfare of everyone that steps into this campus and we know that we can pivot very rapidly if any of the numbers start increasing, but right now, we feel we have the necessary tools available to make this campus safe,” said Dr. Eneida Roldan, the CEO of FIU’s Health Care Network. “We gotta liberate us from the grip of this disease, we gotta take back our space, we have to go on the offensive, safely,” said FIU president Dr. Mark Rosenberg in a webinar to staff last week. “Considering that we have a vaccine now, I think it would be a good idea,” said student Cameron Clark. FIU students seem to be in favor of any measures that would make college feel like college again. “We’re losing a lot of students and the college experience,” said student Shelsia Rameau. “It’s not the same,” said student Christopher Lugo. “You know, working from home you don’t get that same atmosphere, the same feeling.” DeSantis said when it comes to the national debate on reopening K-12 schools, the answer is simple. “The school reopening plan that makes the most sense, if you want to open schools, open ‘em, open the doors,” said the governor Monday in Tallahassee.
How do arbitrary levels demonstrate anything? Your are so constantly full of shit since day 1. What a bunch of garbage you state with conviction. What if the CDC said it was safe to open regardless of spread levels? Would that make it O.K. to open or would you blame Trump for his influcence? You and your ilk have destroying the lives of healthy low risk people when we should have been focusing protecting those who are in the high risk group better.
