    "DeSantis for the win" -- his administration living fact free and pushing COVID denier nonsense for the past 8 months.

    DeSantis spokesman deletes account after tweeting about coronavirus victims
    Fred Piccolo’s tweet drew an almost immediate angry response.
    https://www.tampabay.com/news/flori...unt-after-tweeting-about-coronavirus-victims/

    Fred Piccolo, spokesman for Gov. Ron DeSantis, deactivated his Twitter account Wednesday after he tweeted in the middle of night that photos of each dead COVID-19 victim should be balanced with 99 photos of people who survive the disease.

    In response to a Reuters photo gallery on COVID-19, Piccolo wrote, “I’m wondering since 99% (of) Covid patients survive shouldn’t you have 99 photos of survivors for every one fatality? Otherwise you’re just trying to create a narrative that is not reality.”

    According to a screenshot captured by WLRN reporter Danny Rivero, Piccolo was responding at about 4 a.m. to a tweet by Corinne Perkins, the North America editor for Reuters Pictures.

    “This thread is dedicated to those saying we aren’t seeing images of the reality of COVID-19 in hospitals across the U.S.,” Perkins wrote. “This is not an exhaustive list but I wanted to highlight the stories @reuterspictures photographers bring to light.”

    The thread included pictures of victims, despondent doctors and nurses, grieving families and overwhelmed funeral homes over the course of the pandemic, which had killed almost 328,000 people in the U.S. as of Wednesday.

    Piccolo’s tweet drew an almost immediate angry response.

    “Survive? I have friends who ‘survived’ who have hair falling out and can’t walk across a room without getting winded,” read one reply.

    “Do some math for me, Fred. How many people is 1% of 330 million?” read another.

    “‘Creating a narrative that is not reality’ is a good way to talk about Florida’s COVID numbers,” replied another, with a link to the South Florida Sun Sentinel article about the difficulty of determining how many Floridians died of COVID-19 following Thanksgiving gatherings.

    Piccolo’s account was deactivated shortly after the controversial tweet. Piccolo told the Sun Sentinel on Wednesday he had already planned to leave the social media site.

    “I’ve made people far angrier with other things in the past, this is just an observation that I think was worthy of consternation,” Piccolo said of his last tweet. “But I said this was going to be my Christmas gift to myself to get off of the medium, so I said let’s do it.”

    Piccolo, who had formerly served as the spokesman for the Florida House speaker’s office, has gained notoriety for his often acerbic Twitter account that has pushed misinformation about the coronavirus.

    Piccolo questioned the efficacy of mask-wearing and mask mandates at least 16 times, a Sun Sentinel report found, and has claimed at least three times that COVID-19 is less deadly than the flu.

    About 3,200 people followed Piccolo on Twitter, and while he identifies himself as DeSantis’ spokesman, he didn’t appear to use it as an official messaging channel. Piccolo said Floridians can get information about DeSantis on Twitter from the governor’s official account.

    “I think that we could use far more constructive interactions,” Piccolo added. “The anonymity that Twitter provides ... it’s usually not reporters or people in my position. It’s people with a handle like ‘lawnmowerman12’ and they scream and yell at you and they don’t want to interact in a constructive way. We’ve kind of become a country of screamers and yellers.”

    “It would do us a lot better to have face to face discussions instead of virtual.”

    DeSantis critic Danny Uhlfelder, an attorney who had filed a lawsuit against DeSantis in March trying to force beaches to close and a statewide shutdown, called Piccolo’s comments “disgusting.”

    “He’s responsible for the communication message of the governor,” Uhlfelder said. “And he’s mocking or downplaying the deaths. It’s just inexcusable. I don’t know how you justify that. ... This is not a game. These are people that are suffering and dying.”

    "DeSantis for the win" -- Choosing 5 political allies as "old people" to get the vaccine before the COVID-19 hospital ward doctors and nurses in The Villages area as a political stunt.

    Governor and COVID-19 vaccine-selfish Villagers should be ashamed of themselves
    https://www.villages-news.com/2020/...sh-villagers-should-be-ashamed-of-themselves/

    Like many of you, we were appalled last week when Gov. Ron DeSantis rolled into Florida’s Friendliest Hometown with his traveling COVID-19 roadshow and promptly made sure five Villagers with close ties to the Developer received highly sought-after vaccines.

    The governor’s visit, which took place this past Tuesday at UF Health The Villages Hospital, clearly was nothing more than a publicity stunt to generate support – and future votes – for Florida’s embattled and so-called leader.

    During the stop, DeSantis promised that elderly residents across the Sunshine State would soon receive the vaccines and then stood by and watched as the Developer-friendly Villagers received valuable doses that should have gone to healthcare workers, first responders or those deemed as essential workers – like grocery store cashiers and teachers – who are most likely exposed to COVID-19 on a regular basis.

    Yes, we’re aware that a very limited amount of UF Health employees received vaccines that day. But we also know that DeSantis – always the politician looking for his next move – shunned those who were more deserving and provided the Villagers with the vaccines for a photo op that’s bound to show up in future political ads.

    For the record, the Villagers who received the vaccines were:
    • Steve Printz, who voters recently ousted from the Sumter County Commission after he made the motion last year to approve a 25 percent tax hike that was quite friendly to the Developer;
    • Diane Spencer, a director on the North Sumter County Utility Dependent District Board;
    • Peter Moeller, chairman of the Project Wide Advisory Committee and a Community Development District 6 supervisor;
    • Rich Cole, a Republican Party leader; and
    • Doug Tharp, who serves on the Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors and is a former president of The Villages Homeowners Association.
    All of those Villagers – supposedly “volunteers” – have long-standing ties to the Developer. Frankly, we’re shocked that none of them had the class to insist that their vaccine be given instead to a more deserving healthcare worker, first responder or essential worker. After all, those people are put in danger every single day when they report to work, unlike the retired residents who easily can avoid crowds and dangerous situations simply by staying put in their Villages homes and following guidelines put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    For the MF'ing win, baby!

    Texas, Florida Buck CDC Guidelines On Vaccine, Will Focus Initial Doses On Most Vulnerable

    Texas and Florida are bucking Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines on distributing the vaccine, choosing to focus more on vaccinating vulnerable populations.

    Texas announced on Monday that it was breaking with CDC advice on who should receive the vaccine in early rounds of vaccinations. The CDC had recommended that after nursing home residents and healthcare workers, states should prioritize the elderly and workers deemed essential in sectors such as agriculture and education.

    While Texas is still in the beginning round of vaccinations going to healthcare workers and long-term care facilities, it will prioritize the most vulnerable to COVID-19 when it moves to the next phase in a matter of weeks.

    “The state of Texas will prioritize people who are at the greatest risk of severe disease and death from COVID-19 for the next phase of vaccination,” the Texas Department of Health and Human Services said in a press release. “More than 70 percent of COVID-19 deaths in Texas have occurred in people 65 and older, and scientific evidence shows that adults of any age with certain medical conditions have an increased risk of hospitalization and death if they get sick with COVID-19.”

    “The state is currently in Phase 1A of vaccine distribution, which includes residents of long-term care facilities and front-line health care workers. With an estimated 1.9 million Texans in those groups, it will likely be at least a few weeks before a transition to Phase 1B occurs,” the release continued. “The timing will depend on the amount of vaccine provided to Texas and the uptake of vaccine among the priority populations.”

    Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that his state would follow a similar vaccination process, prioritizing those most vulnerable to the virus before moving on to other populations.

    “Our vaccines are going to be targeted where the risk is the greatest, and that is our elderly population,” the Republican governor said in a press conference on Tuesday, according to Fox 13. “We are not going to put young, healthy workers ahead of our elderly, vulnerable population.”

    DeSantis had suggested on Monday, when the first batch of vaccines arrives in his state, that he would be breaking with the CDC’s advice.

    “It’s something that’s very important and it means a lot to me that we’re putting our parents and grandparents first,” DeSantis said. “If you took a 25-year-old deputy anywhere in Florida and said, ‘I have one vaccine do you want it or should we give it to this 70-year-old?’ I think 9/10 they’d say, ‘Give it to the grandparents. Give it to the parents.’”

    The CDC was mired in controversy earlier this week after it released guidelines saying that a person’s race should be taken into account when deciding when he or she should be vaccinated. The federal government asserted that minority communities hard hit by the virus should be prioritized over white communities. As The Daily Wire reported:

    Minority communities — specifically black and Hispanic communities — have been hit hard by the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19, and are far more likely to be hospitalized with the virus and three times more likely to die from its effects according to studies out over the summer tracking how the virus spreads in select areas of the United States.

    There are a number of reasons for the disparity, including less access to quality health care in minority communities and city centers, more pre-existing health conditions that directly impact how patients are able to recover from the virus, and a higher percentage of community members who work in service-oriented industries considered “essential” during the pandemic.

    Other than the AARP data which you say was released early, I don't pay attention to your tabloid horseshit.

    Can you show me the AARP data you say was released early? Because when I go to the site you linked to (and the bookmark I have) all I see is data from November 15.
