Just curious, but where were all the comments when New York was printing 700-900 deaths a day for weeks? Did I miss that thread somewhere?

Look, Florida is ahead of the pack because it opened early. If you guys don't think NY and NJ are going to experience a resurgence, or any other state for that matter, then you're nuts. The second round is coming. Better get used to the idea. You won't be able to talk about how Florida did everything bad then. You'll have to come up with some other hypothesis. Like, the virus is contagious or something. Its going to come back unless we isolate for the rest of our lives - or until there is a vaccine - assuming a vaccine even works.

It's probably just people in Florida behaving stupid, though.

He is. If you think this is bad you should see what he did back during the Spanish Flu. And he still managed to get elected!

The problem people are having is not the deaths per se. It's the deaths due to ignorance.

Show us where NY acted contrary to the CDC's advice.

Ground zero so much less was known about the virus back then. Cities with heavily used international airports and extended families all over the planet were at risk immediately. Florida should have been fine no reason for a massive out break. Lock downs control the initial spread and allowed advances to be made in medical knowledge, treatments, and resources. Toronto was a hot zone for SARS actually.

A part of this issue is the public being accountable for their action and words, and the time to be fighting whether there is a problem or not ended weeks ago ( months for some of us ).

Can you show me the advice the CDC made that said "please put your sick in nursing homes"? Maybe they did that, but I didn't see it. Maybe you have that link.

What will you say when European countries have their second wave? What will you say when Canada does? Asia? Or are you willing to state right now there won't be a second wave?

You won't want to blame it on ignorance then. And rightly so.

Opening a state or country means a contagious virus is going to spread. That's just the way it goes.

Probably the start of the second wave in Belgium as well..

Australia is well into its second wave...

Not to mention the many Eastern European and African countries now going through their first waves or having never ended their first waves.

Its really simple. We have a contagious virus out there and its going to spread. Isolate those who are vulnerable and take precautions around them. The rest of the world needs to go on with its life. This isn't going away.

As of today, case fatality rate by age in Florida

    upload_2020-7-30_8-0-35.png

Quite simply, if you aren't in older than 65, your overall chance of dying from Covid is .0028%, meaning 3 out of every 1000 people die. Those are probably folks with additional co-morbidity, but this is just a guess as I don't have that data here. For reference, 1 out of every 1000 people died from the 17/18 flu based on the CDC estimates.

There is simply no need to shut the world down over this. But we absolutely need to protect the elderly - which we should do every flu season regardless.

And just because GWB gets a hard-on over it, there are 2,836 of the above deaths in long term care facilities/nursing homes.
