The totally unacceptable leadership by DeSantis in this public health disaster needs to be called out. And I will call it out. The title of this thread trying to portray DeSantis as a "winner" is obscene. The unfortunate impact of his failures is the rapidly increasing number of avoidable deaths in Florida.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, Polly. You've probably stated it at least 6 dozen times so far. Interesting link, eh?
Knowing the age of those hospitalized would be really helpful. 200+ is getting into big numbers. Is Florida still not counting deaths of people who claim residency in another state?
Well now, that's embarrassing. On my monitor I don't even see a gray line. I see black and slightly less black. Do you have the supporting data for the chart? There is no reason to support why they would experience a decline after a much faster gain initially (assuming I'm using the right gray line this time), unless the decline is coming from a second wave and other countries just aren't at that point yet. Additionally, why is it that the UK is on the very bottom (assuming I have the right color this time)? They locked down completely. If lock down = economic success....
Cities in Florida are getting no COVID supply or testing help from state government. They now rely on New York for help. With help from the state of New York, St. Pete opens new testing site https://www.bizjournals.com/tampaba...p-from-the-state-of-new-york-st-pete-ope.html The state of New York will be aiding the city of St. Petersburg to open a new testing site that will provide 500 free tests a day. The announcement came during New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s daily Covid-19 briefing Wednesday morning. Starting Wednesday, St. Pete, aided by New York, will open a free Covid testing site at Pinellas Community Church at 5501 31st St. S. New York will also send thousands of supplies including face masks, gowns, hand sanitizer and testing kits. The total items donated include: 124,000 surgical masks (50 cases) 7,500 VTM test kits 7,500 gowns 11,500 gloves 7,500 N95 masks 7,500 face shields 1,250 gallons of hand sanitizer 1,200 sanitizing wipes 120 goggles 10 closed circuit ventilators 10 iPads to assist with telehealth needs Cuomo said he was inspired to help other cities and states after New York went through its worst stage during the early days of the pandemic. The state received outside help from medical workers that helped it contain its outbreak. Notably, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been critical of New York's response to the pandemic, especially in March and April. "We know what you're going through," Cuomo told St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman. "Anything else you need, we’re here.” This additional testing site comes as St. Pete works to reduce its positivity rate to below 5 percent, a key metric for Kriseman. If the city does not see that rate dip below 5 percent, Kriseman may enact further restrictions, he warned during a press conference last week. That comes as DeSantis ruled out further business restrictions last week.
Kriseman can put in his own restrictions for the town if he wants. He doesn't need DeSantis to do it. Why isn't he if it is so important?
This was not like stock market hindsight. There is no public science with which to forecast the stock market with scientific accuracy; so everyone properly gets to have their opinion as to where it's going. But there are epidemiological mathematical models to forecast infection trends and spreads with scientific accuracy. On what basis were you in his camp when this started? What science were you using to make that decision? Or maybe the question should be, what news network were you unconditionally believing? What on Earth made you believe, "He's right, Fauci is wrong." Exactly. That's why this country is, where it is. If a news network can divide this country, over wearing simple face masks, during a pandemic, despite the science ... yeah .... we're fucked. We need to fix the education system in the US. Proper education would improve critical thinking and help with problems in multiple areas: Ignoring science. Not understanding science. Police using excessive force. Being served the wrong order in the fast food drive-thru. The other problems.
