depression

  1. Its very unlikely to be depressed if trader makes money with consistency. Its an accomplishment and success does not bring depression, consistency is associated with uniqueness.Surroundings have very little influence its a state of mind.

Now gambling is definitive cause of depression, brings inner insecurity.
It comes back to consistency without which even making money can be perceived as gambling.
Experience of gambling in the past can also cause depression, taken risk with negative outcome will not go away and will be obstacle to happiness in the future even more so if it repeated itself and how often.

It is underestimated how crucial it is from the beginning to protect oneself from this experience.

I read so many comments on this forum "to trade you need to open account and put money i it and actually trade to understand psychological impact of it".Nothing further from the truth!
Every time trader enters a trade without a thought out plan and confidence its like a curtain goes down on him. This negative outcome will blurr process that is needed to find a solution.

Does not matter if it takes even ten years to build something and understand it.In the porcess of doing that its critical not to end up being wounded "animal".
This could be sole reason why only very few get to the finish line and find that consistency,to find it dose of purity is required, setbacks, losses of money saved up for this endeavour are like needle jabbed into human tissue in the same spot.It is no good to end up psychologicaly damaged like a proverbial whore standing outside of Lincoln Tunnel.

Its all about the future, regardless how today may look

I always look with curiosity how some high level ss members lived to their 80's and longer and same thing with survivors of concentration camps,i think this has something to do with the fact they all felt distinctive, unique about themselves.
In trading consistency is the hardest part and its unique (and this is different to money made from "gambling") is the inner desire of some who venture into this field

If one feels down or depressed, a change of environment is good. Went on a trip to south America alone for two weeks during fall of 2021. Loved every minute of it.

Traveling, exploring the world and see new places make me feel good, upbeat and happy mood.

    hi Stochastix,

I lost a friend to depression a few months back and having seen it upfront and closeup, every single one of us - the friends left behind - have been kicking themselves over what we could have done, should have done and might have said that could have made a difference.

So apologies if this seems a bit full on, but at least you know why. Here's what the fuck I wish I'd told him and so now say to you. Let's take as a given all the obvious things, exercise, new social groups, meditation, professional help, meds all that stuff. All of which can help, many of which mentioned so not knocking any of it or the suggestions so far.

But I just want to major on one single thing here - gut-brain axis.

I'm not medically trained but just read through this and see if it makes sense. I'm certain if it does to you, you'll grab it with both hands and take the right steps to sort it out. And when you do, you'll be able to help others in ways you've never imagined.

My friend's experience of depression was best described to me as a pattern of negative thoughts, and endless loop that would constantly repeat, and created an internal negative monologue he could never switch off.

So, you've got a problem in the brain - a destructive hard-wiring if you will. But the brains thoughts, feelings, emotions etc are directly linked to the gut.

    read the whole thing:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/ar...can directly,to the gut microbiota hypothesis.

    but the takeaway :
Gut microbiota abnormalities can directly induce depression, gut microbiota can influence the behavior and mind via the microbiota–gut–brain axis, and microbiota–gut–brain axis dysfunction is the main pathophysiology of depression, according to the gut microbiota hypothesis.

Your gut bacteria- collectively the biome has a feedback loop between the brain and the gut. Both affect each other. Meaning your thoughts affect your gut, and your gut affects your thoughts. You can induce depression in mice (noone's bold enough to do the human versions of this) by changing their gut bacteria, as has been proven thousands of times (you can search easily for the papers on this). Your gut thrives on the food you eat, and there's research I'd read a while back that shows that the emotions you have *at the time* of eating influence your biome.

For this reason, improving the plasticity of your brain, and improving your biome should both yield results.

    1) Brain:
    a) MDMA https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/mdma-depression
    b) psilocybin / magic mushrooms: https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2022/04/12/magic-mushrooms-depression-study/7287234001/
I don't have an easy answer as to how you do this in a clinical setting yet, maybe others have an idea?

    2) Gut:
    a) probiotics, fermented foods, low inflammation diet (no processed carbs, high fibrous veg etc). read up on Tim Spector, a prof who specialises in microbiome research
    b) timing. Take every opportunity to eat with others and if you're eating alone, consider meditation style exercises prior to eating.

The one takeaway - don't wait for the answer to become mainstream. It takes decades to turn medical treatment direction around. Look into it, and I'm sure you'll find it makes sense. And good luck fella, really.

Depression sucks. My Dad dealt with it, and I didn't even know about it for a very long time. I eventually found out and really didn't think much about it, I wrote it off to pressures at work and his experiences in WWII. I never thought it would be or was a problem for me. I didn't correlate drinking too much with using alcohol to deal with it. For various reasons I got hit head on awhile back and hit some lows.
I ended up getting help and took booze out of the equation. The Dr.'s put me on some meds, the first one did nothing at all. The second was f***ing nightmare. It screwed up my head worse and left me with nightmares on a regular basis. These were not ordinary nightmares, at least that I had experienced, these were terrifying.
I weened myself off that crap and try to meditate as often as possible, but things like the new puppy mess up my schedule, and I know it.
I would love to try micro dosing but have no clue anymore how to get my hands on shrooms or LSD. I would try it in a second.
Anyway, for those who think it is a weakness or fault, go screw yourself.

You might be able to do it legally in a clinical trial.

Besides all obvious good things money can buy some other ‘problems’ can arise:
    1) you have to manage your wealth, and this can cause some stress. Especially in this inflationary environment. Losing money is always stressfull, and going from 20k to 10k is evenly stressfull as going from 200 to 100 etc. We as humans can only think relatively.
    2) possessions will also bound your time and ‘brainspace’. Assets require maintenance. A boat is a good example.

i think another good ingredient for feeling of happiness is a gradual and steady progress. This is applicable to almost every aspect in your life.

A substatial portion of the benefit is it distances you from people that have been stealing your life force. Just getting 200 miles away from home will have you feeling better. Leave the phone at home and remove the gps from the car to cut down on anyone following like happened to a friend.

In life you we certain support pillars: your job, loving partner, close friends and family, health.

The more of those you don't have (or lose), the less support you have and the more your life will eventually descend into chaos and depression.

Also having addictions on top like alcohol and drugs will add even more chaos.

    Lets take the ideal:
Good job and career, loving partner, lots of good friends and family, no major health problems, no major addiction problems.

    And the other extreme:
No job, no loving partner, no close friends or family, poor health, alcohol and drug addiction

You don't need to get to get to that extreme to end up depressed, losing just one can often be enough. But because you got the others you have a good chance of recovering quickly. But losing three or more it is going to be really hard to get your life back.
