We buy our oil and save our reserves. One day we will sell oil to the rest of the world. They will want our oil. We have more oil than any other country in the world.
All the arguments in this thread are assuming businesses without innovation. But China is innovating here. This matters to the world more than whether Trump got elected or not. That innovation is in EVs. The world is likely to embrace this. That could be the turning point of world leadership. Not Trump, not tariffs, not drilling more oil.
They don't pay. We do. Don't you understand basic economics? The buyer (not seller) pays, tariffs are built into the final price.
The US is #11 on the reserves list, behind Canada by a large margin. This is as I thought where many US firms have limited supply whereas there are some Canadian companies with 30+ years more supply. So your claim is just wrong what is occurring is the US is depleting it's reserves for short term political gains ( see Biden and the SPR you guys used half that reserve up already trying to manipulate the price of Oil ).
Canada's exports don't fit this formula. The US sets up branch offices in Canada to sell us services. A 39 million person relatively wealthy nation is not a market to ignore. What we export to you is primarily materials you need at a cheaper cost then most world sources plus less shipping costs. It's a win win relationship that Trump wants to blow up out of ignorance and to get short term political gains with his core supporters. It's also insane policy in a world where the US has many enemy states and difficult regimes where some of the world's resources exist. I trade commodity stocks all it takes is to shut down one countries Oil , even a small country, and it impacts price. Needed mines can have huge political or operational issues, and labour costs are going up. But you know what, we are ready for a trade war if you want it. Most of us. Alberta's leader seems out of the loop but she has no real say in national policy. Ontario's leader is the perfect foil to Trump despite his weaknesses. Freeland and Carney are capable reps to deal with him down the road. As I said in other threads, go for it.
They sure are complaining and screaming about if they aren't the ones paying the tariff. Lol Canada ...Mexico..etc
So like Trump you think lying about reality is a viable strategy. Might be in US politics but in business it's not.
And OrangeJesus sure is claiming he will hit them with 'em. On day one, what happened to that? 100% on China, now he says he and China PM are buddies - "U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday he has "always had a great relationship" with Chinese President Xi Jinping...". All depends on which side of the bed his delusional head gets out of.
