I have Canadian friends. Why do Canadians come to the USA for medical reasons?

Yes, we pay premiums, but I don't fool with those crazy Advantage Plans. I travel and I can't be fooling around with pre-authorization and network BS and primary care doctor's referrals to see a specialist. I pay a monthly premium for Medicare and I pay a supplemental insurance premium. I only to ask one question to see any doctor, specialist or go to any hospital: Do you accept Medicare? If yes, I am ok.

However, I do agree there ought to be some sort of safety net for those folks unable to afford a healthcare premium.

Canadians may eat better so longer lives. I have never checked.

I never was hurt in any way by any of Mr T policies first time around and I doubt I will be this time around.

Canadians I think are just pissed Trump would jokingly suggest Canada become a US state. Apparently, they can't understand or deal with a joke and they get their feathers all ruffled up. And of course, pissed about the tariffs which will be a wonderful thing for the USA. LOL

I have several Canadian friends and they all..well most all..carry disdain for the USA. We were once invited to some of our Canadian friends house to eat and the man of the house, who was and still is a friend of mine, was railing on the US at the dinner table. His wife stepped in and spoke the truth. She said: "Canadians are just jealous". I have laughed several times over that statement over the years.

    You people are incorrigible.

"Upon accepting the nomination for a second term, President McKinley spoke boldly of tariffs and wealth and prosperity it gave America.

"A tariff which protects American labor and industry and provides ample revenues has been written in public law. We have lower interest and higher wages; more money and fewer mortgages. The world's markets have been opened to American products, which go now where they have never gone before. We have passed from a bond-issuing to a bond-paying Nation; from a Nation of borrowers to a Nation of lenders; from a deficiency in revenue to a surplus; from fear to confidence; from enforced idleness to profitable employment. The public faith has been upheld; public order has been maintained. We have prosperity at home and prestige abroad."

William McKinley's life and presidency was cut short by an assassin, but in a few short years, he took the nation from an acute economic depression to prosperity. Like President Trump has stated, he is one of the most under-rated presidents. William McKinley was known as the "Napoleon of Protection", but in the end it was reciprocal trade that he was after. William McKinley showed us that tariffs can be a powerful path to a more prosperous and wealthier America.

Canada will be enacting matching tariffs on up to $150B in trade. There will be nothing wonderful for either country because of tariffs, but if the head clown in chief wants to go that route we can deal with it we are not a poor nation ( in fact, your govt has a higher debt load then ours ). Canadians aren't upset about any of this we are resigned to Trump being an idiot the only upsetting thing is when some of our politicians go soft on US relations. Myself I would treat Trump with the disdain a bully deserves and hit him where it hurts.

Understand though that some Canadians and some Americans ( millions actually ) will be directly impacted on all of this, and they may be upset. Even on the watered down tariffs from term one, many jobs were impacted or lost and some industries ( in areas like lumber ) had to cancel some of their projects. Perhaps you are lucky as is my family to be basically unaffected by any of this.

I suspect the reason many Americans get mad easily about 'loud' Canadians is that deep down they know they deserve the criticism. Trump is perpetually pissed at people who stand up to him ( like Freeland who handled the trade disputes term one ). It is what it is I am happy that some family members are doing well in the US ( one in particular is doing exceptional well a self made 1%er based on income at a relatively young age ).

If Trump proceeds exactly as stated it will be a disaster. I am amazed that so many haven't highlighted how ridiculous his energy statements are. Not an ounce of practicality to any of it. His policy statements directly contradict each other.
