The comedienne gave an interview on Australia’s Seven Network where she talked about about the backlash she received over the picture that launched her into political infamy back in May. Griffin said she thinks the backlash was mostly generated by “hardcore” Trump fans who barraged her with death threats and pressured others around the country to keep their distance from her. “I am no longer sorry, the whole outrage was B.S., the whole thing got so blown out of proportion and I lost everybody,” Griffin said. “I have been through the mill.” Sunrise co-anchor Samantha Armytage brought up how Griffin’s photo was condemned by various Trump critics at the time, and she asked Griffin whether her photo was over the line. “No, you’re full of crap,” Griffin answered. “Stop acting like my little picture is more important than talking about the actual atrocities that the president of the United States is committing.” Griffin has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since her initial apology, though she recently re-emerged after an extensive profile with New York Magazine. Griffin talked about the end of her friendship with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, the network’s request that she limit her Trump jokes during her New Year’s Eve show, and her plans to move forward with her career.
My guess is because the right has pushed the narrative of no illegal immigration all the while aiming to end venues of legal migration (capping h1b, family ties, muslim ban, birthright citizenship, etc, etc...)
