You should not be building in high fire risk zones -- anymore than you should build beach houses in hurricane zones. Yet they will continue building houses in L.A. in the same way they keep building houses on the North Carolina barrier islands.

The homes are the fire's fuel
Why firefighting was no match for a California disaster decades in the making.

Gavin Newsom Declares ‘State of Emergency’ for Brush Clearance — Months Too Late

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) declared a “state of emergency” on Saturday for brush clearance ahead of peak fire season — but months too late to save the devastated communities of Los Angeles from the Palisades and Eaton fires.

Funny when Florida or Texas has another disaster certain people have nothing to say. And the leaders of said states suddenly want federal help. Just like when the US needs international help, like asking Canada to send troops to Afghanistan, they suddenly think Canada is a military ally. Or when Trump got Covid, suddenly he gets far more medical help then most Americans get, and forgets how he said Covid isn't a significant risk for anyone.

Selfish people always take when they have to regardless of what they said about not ever needing help or insurance coverage or disaster relief or military threats. Americans who aren't well off are often just a job loss and/or medical event away from financial disaster. Throw in some interest rate hikes and a stock market correction and/or housing price correction it can get pretty uncomfortable.
