Six months is standard practice in a demo account, the reason is many traders fail and cannot maintain account more than six months, some trader use demo account more than a year.

Indeed. There are pros and cons to demo trading, I would say mainly pros for people looking to get accounts funded. Cons do include subpar pricing, spreads, etc which of course depends on the broker.
