  2. It is telling that a liberal like this moron objects to spending money on a core government function, border control. What that has to do with communism escapes me, but I don't think logic is his strong suit.

I don't think so. The gilded age of capitalism as we moved from an agrarian economy - corresponds too what the USSR went through since 1987... we saw massively positive movement for the people of Eastern Europe and Russia... perhaps until recently

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the “War on Poverty” (announced in January of 1964) and the “Great Society” (announced 50 years ago yesterday). These were America’s two great experiments in using the power of the federal government to transform and radically improve the country. Fifty years and some 15 or 20 trillion dollars—depending on how you count—is a pretty good test and plenty of time to conclude that it has failed.

"What is interesting is that most of the countries of the top of the list are countries with a large welfare state and very high taxes (including on labor). So the negative correlation between the welfare state and taxes and the ability to motivate people to work (and create jobs) that some bring back all the time does not seem to be present in the data."

  10. ^ what would actually be interesting is a comparison of the private sector participation rate in these countries. govt jobs are net takers of tax revenue.

I know this comment has nothing to do with the point you were trying to make.
