LOL... beauty of Linux... it works on anything... vendors will only certify what they test, in this case dell has tested T3600 with RHEL.. http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/Dell-Precision-T3600-Spec-Sheet.pdf http://partnerdirect.dell.com/sites...ion_T3600_Workstation_Technical_Guidebook.pdf
Thanks to everyone for their replies. The issue with trying to run the Microsoft consumer products on Dell server hardware is lack of driver support. When I tried to install Windows 7 on my T310, for instance, it booted from the installation DVD and then a window popped up saying that installation could not continue because it could not find any drivers for the DVD drive. Some people said that W2008 drivers would probably work on W7, but I'm not sure I want to risk random crashes. In the case of Linux, Dell provides enough driver support that distros can certify hardware themselves. The T3600 is certified by Ubuntu. http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201109-9788/
I agree... but there are ways around the driver issues, specially DVD's...... as long as the NIC and chipset are supported, you are pretty "safe"... if you look at the tech guide, you will see all the distro's that are supported... which by extension would include a few others as well..
