Dell Precision T3600

  1. I still favor 4, 24" monitors @ 1920x1200 over 3, 27"ers. At higher resolutions, everything displayed is smaller... Of course you can get more things displayed because of the higher res... but is that what you really want? If you end up making the font size larger because everything is too small, you've mostly defeated the purpose of the higher resolution... and overpaid while doing so.

  2. I recall in another thread someone commenting they had to increase font size. I really need to see a 27" for myself before deciding. Had no luck finding one in the IT superstore, will have to look at the brand stores.

the desktop doesnt need the extended warranty, only the monitors... after 3 years what will go wrong at basically HDD, memory(wearly) and mechanical failtures (fans, PSU, etc)...

personally I would spend the $400 on the 1650 (again, keep your ownership duration in mind) ... and get the monitors extended warranty... those will fail...

use the DP and DVDD... dont waste your time with HDMI... always use the native connector whenever you can...

  4. The 2560x1440 res of 27"ers is relatively new. Many of the older, cheap, workstation video cards may not display that res as a stock choice... may not be available at all unless you can select a custom res display... and that would be driver-dependent.

if you can see on a 24" @ native 1920x1080... you can see on a 27" @ native as well...

PS. unless you are really old or/and have vision issues, of course, at that point in time what makes sense is to do whatever will help your sight...

Be nice, I resemble that remark.

I let my spam filter determine screen size.

Years ago it was full of Dating spam... I used 19"-20" monitors / 10 font

As time progressed, my spam filter was inundated with Viagra spam... I transitioned to 22"-24" monitors / 12 font

Now all I get in my spam filter is hip replacement and cruise ship spam... hence 30" monitors with huge font...

  9. Only hopelessly long sighted. Have a special pair of reading glasses for computer use so I can read from a metre away. Regular reading glasses show up the pixels too much plus I got to sit too close for comfort. :)

I hope I didn't offend anyone with that comment...

what I was saying (since I cant edit the prior one anymore) is that unless you are older (50+? but am almost 40 so lets say 60+ :)) or have vision issues (glasses, eye injuries, etc) the native resolution at standard font size will be fine...

clearly, if there are any vision issues, the resolution will just give you a bigger chart to look at once you increase the font size...
