Yeah, a trip to the store and buying off the rack is always a nice luxury in today's mail order world.

I find it's easier to keep a cold-spare in the cupboard or basement instead though ;)

  2. Well that is a good price, Mr. Scat
Just wondering, how to connect this tower to my monitors
Seven connections (I assume for Monitors), in the box bounded in red.
What are those connections called ??

    TIA

The blue things outlined in red are clips that hold the expansion cards in place. Your monitors will plug into the four vertical connections on the one and only expansion [video] card that is installed second from the left.

    This thing:

Of course, this presupposes that you already have the proper cables and monitors. Totally optimizing cost can backfire. I just go for "close enough".

E.g. If you already have full-size display port cables (rather than the mini cables) then, instead of spending money on new cables (for no real reason), you can spend that extra money on a machine with more memory. Extra memory helps quite a bit.

Expense can't be ignored but penny pinching when it comes to the tools of your trade may not always be a great idea. Will an extra $400 break your bank? Because...

I like this deal myself. Probably because I prefer something compact. The CPU is 7 years more contemporary, more power efficient, 1GHz faster boost, and 14nm vs 32nm. The video card is far nicer too. Plus the picture indicates it comes with an optical drive, which is a little bonus. Better check w/ the seller about that though since it's a stock photo.

  4. Those are clips that hold peripheral and video cards in place. You see the one with 4 ports? That's one video card to run 4 montors.

  5. I need to identify the cables I will need before I buy it.
My current monitors have a DP PORT, Serial Port, and one other connection (at least 25 pins)
So what kind of cables would I be looking for if I wanted to connect this BOX to my current monitors?

  6. You'll need miniDisplay Port (mDP) connection for each monitor. For you monitors with Display Port (DP) you'll need a "DP-mDP" adapter or a "DP-mDP cable"... DP on one end, mDP on the other... no adapter required. I'm not sure about the others.... they're old stuff. Check the monitors and see if they also have a DP... if so, get DP cables to run them. The "25 pins" one is likely DVI. That might still work with your other monitors. As for serial port (VGA?)... likely the resolution would be low.

If you're running >4 monitors, I'd suggest you get some new monitors with DP and with HD or UHD resolution... that's 1920x1080 or 3840x2160. "Mixin' and Matchin" different monitors and video outputs often comes with some difficulties. You can run 2x, 510 video cards for running 5-8, monitors. The 510s on eBay run ~$25.

Seller mentions including "1 adapter (mDP) for your vga"... that's probably not correct... more likely he meant to say, "for your DVI". With that you can get it up and running on one monitor while you acquire cables/adapters for other monitors.

  9. OK, I guess I would need these, one for each monitor.
(If that is it, I will buy this box)

  10. Not sure from the pic. The connection on the "small end" looks like it's maybe too big.

Sorry... I guess that's OK. You don't need to buy pricey ones... you might be able to get them in a "4-pack" for less cost per each.
