lilboy716, Very nice. I have four of the Dell 2001 flat panels, and they are very nice. I paid about $1300 apiece for them ~2 years ago, so seeing a price of ~$507 is pretty amazing for anyone needing a flat panel. I'm still hoping someone comes across some a Dell coupon this week that can be used on a Dell Precision Workstation machine. Last week, they had some 25% off coupons, and I'm crossing my fingers that more appear this week. Thanks for sharing, -Eric
Why do you need a 670 workstation? are you running Adobe Creative Suite? If you are just trading and surfing the web a 670 is complete overkill.
whats better the dell 2001 fp or the dell 2005 wide angel. i think the 2001 is digital and the 2005 is not. which would someone on ehre buy. that 20.1 inch for 507 is an incredible price
I use these workstations for automated trading, and I'm always running low on CPU. The Dell Precision Workstation 670 that I am looking at will have dual 3.2 GHz Xeon processors with 2 MB of L2 cache and 3 GB of RAM. Despite the power of a machine like this, I still find myself CPU limited during especially busy market times (the opening 2 minutes, and after interest rate hikes, etc). In fact, if I could buy a machine with double the speed, I would jump at it. That said, I like to save money when I by new workstations, and I'm hopeful to run across a Dell coupon in the next week to save a few bucks on the purchase. Thanks, -Eric
I have this machine and it I rarely if ever see the CPU > 70% of utilization. http://www.tyan.com/products/html/tx46b4882.html You have to know how to install the OS and memory correctly - see http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28762 I am running 4 848s with 1G of RAM for each Opteron. If you went to the state of the art Opterons, and ran a 64-bit operating system on this machine, it would run like a bat out of hell. It will cost you $$$$ though and lots of expertise since Windows does not have a 64-bit OS yet. That means 64-bit *nix. I recently added this server to my stable for databasing: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&kc=6W300&l=en&oc=pe2850&s=bsd The 800Mgz FSB, the PCI-E and DDRII 400 Mhz memory and the PERC SCSI RAID controller were the reason I chose it for database applications. I will be running 64-bit Linux on this machine. Another optimization you might consider is a TOE. nitro

Thanks. It looks like that one won't help me, though. I get $250 off automatically by ordering through their Dell Small Business part of their website, when I try to apply that coupon, the price stays the same for me. Thanks for posting it, though. Hopefully, someone else will be able to use it. -Eric
Dell Smallbiz $150 rebate: http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/bsd/bsd_rebate_form.pdf Details: http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/rebates?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd
Nice. I ended up calling the Dell Small Business representative a second time (first was last week). It seems like the more times you talk to them, but more likely they are to drop the price just to close the sale. He ended up offering me 15% off of the regular web price ($3822 minus 15% = $3248), which was $324 off of the normal Dell Small Business web price. I decided to jump at it, instead of hoping that they would run another 25% off coupon anytime soon. Thanks to all that helped, I really appreciate it. -Eric
