The resolutions supported is dependent on the graphics card you have. XP has nothing to do with this.

Most newer cards can support this high resolution in question. The older ones, 3+ years old, can do only 1920x1200.

Higher resolution gives you more texture, finer details. Increase the font size and icon size, and you should be fine. Don't reduce the resolution, LCD should be run at native resolution for best quality.

the geforce 7 series will do 2560x1600, using the dual link dvi

  4. anyone know why a 24" LCD is 2x the price of a 22" LCD? I'm leaning towards having a 30" with 2 smaller side LCD's like two 24".

the 24" is not a mainstream lcd. that's why its more expensive. the 22" ones use the same res as the 20" ones so they are equiv in price (22" vs. 20").

  6. I just don't get it? why do you guys spend so much money on your monitors...??? I know that if your going to spend money on your trading system that you should spend it on screen real estate, but why not get the lower price 19" and more of them..the bezels are thin?

I am also for reducing tangible assets $ in trading, on another hand if one is managing over $1m these figures are very acceptable and can be justified. I personally use 2 x 19", but must admit that with recent inclusion of FX in my trading I am running out of screen space. The amount of monitors/screen space also depends on how many instruments are being actively traded.

  8. I do not think I would waste money, if I had several million, not at this stage in my life at least. It just not seem efficient to me...

its not the bezel. its the resolution for me. for one inch more, the 1600x1200 res gives about 40% more real estate. if you are like me, it would mean a lot more lcds that would take up too much space on my desk.

Capital distribution is key to success, so if you were managing several million and were participating in say 20 markets and had to observe 20 charts simultaneously, then you could look at this from another angle of necessity, rather than would or wouldn't.
