Does Weighted or Unweighted GPA Matter More? Though it’s tempting to want a straight answer, it’s not as simple as weighted or unweighted GPA being more important. In fact, the GPA you get from your school, or that you calculate using a 4.0 scale, may not even be the one that schools look at. Some schools might recalculate your GPA using their own scale, giving particular weight to factors that they care most about, like particular classes. The UC system is one notable example, as it relies more on grades than many other institutions. Overall, what GPA schools care about will vary from school to school. Most care about both – they want to see you challenge yourself, but not every school offers the same courses, and so an unweighted GPA can help compare across high schools that may not offer the same honors classes. Now, if you have taken many honors or advanced classes, don’t think that colleges won’t see that. Even for schools that don’t calculate a weighted GPA, or at colleges that tend to give unweighted GPA more attention, your course rigor will come through in your transcript and the school report that colleges will receive from your school counselor.
When I was in high school many students would take easy honors or AP courses like history to puff up their GPA rather than hard honors or AP courses like advanced calculus etc. Both easy and hard honors/AP courses weighed the same.Thats why many schools look at the real GPA and give their own weight to honors/AP courses.
I have never seen someone be wrong without using google... From.UNC website on FAQ Frequently asked questions. Is the GPA score based on the weighted or unweighted GPA? The weighted GPA will be used to determine if the student satisfies the minimum GPA requirement.
Who said a student of higher merit was denied entry due to race? Another made uo fact... you can't even define merit..
The Zhong kid could help his case with full transparency releasing his full college application including transcripts, essays, recommendation letters, all SAT scores etc.He only mentions his weighted GPA and SAT but GPA's can be puffed up taking easy AP courses and SATs can be improved working with professional SAT businesses and taking it multiple times. Many schools are now requiring applicants to submit all SATs taken, not just the highest one. The Zhong kid releasing selected information and not all such as class rank in HS,which was around 35-40,not mentioning his father got him the job at Google, using his father to pump up his application, not mentioning that he was applying for Computer Science Major (making it much tougher to get accepted due to limited slots available ) etc makes me think the guy is fraud and admission officers probably felt the same.
You do realize that the entire U.S. Supreme Court ruling was about students of higher merit being denied admission on the basis of their race.
