DEI Runs Amok

  1. REMEMBER, the SC said you can use race as a factor....

Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts noted that the Court’s opinion does not bar universities from considering an applicant’s discussion of how race affected their life, whether through discrimination, inspiration, or otherwise. Specifically, an applicant may explain how their race influenced their character in a way that would contribute to the university.

So basically... the student can mention their race in their admissions essay.

Why don't you read the rest of the Supreme Court decision and explain to us why UNC, Harvard, and other universities immediately changed their policies to not use race as a factor in admissions. As outlined by all the articles I posted earlier.

  3. Because the SC made it so the question of what is your race was removed from the Common App. Students cannot PROVE they were denied addmission because of their race but imagine having to defend every whiny bitch who got rejected. All they did was block out the question on the Common Ap while allowing students to reference it in their essays which most schools have 3 or 4. Schools still get Naviance reports on the student body make up of every HS where students apply from. They know the socioeconomic and racial profiles of eveyr HS in the U.S.

Every single college in America wants a diverse student body so they will take into account the geography, HS applying from, in state v. out of state, male/female, race etc of the applicant pool. Only ignorant people try to argue that an Asian kid got rejected from a school wiht 25-30% Asians admitted when they make up 10% of the population. Also it has been aid THOUSANDS of times that a kid with a 4.0 and 31 ACT with volunteer hours, school activities and a broader resume will get into a school over a 4.5/35 who did nothing but school or got a lot of Daddy help....

Yet after the Supreme Court ruling the number (and percentage) of blacks admitted went down and the number (and percentage) of Asians admitted went up -- as the universities adhered to the requirements of the Supreme Court decision.

  5. I am well aware of the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA,which is why I posted his real GPA.

  6. Exactly, and admission officers probably felt the same.

His dad also has a high position at Google, which is probably why he got the job there.

In most of our local high schools (including the ones my kids went to) the only students with 4.0 unweighted GPAs are the ones who took no honors or AP courses. The unweighted GPA was a better measure of achievement. In fact most college admissions in North Carolina only consider your unweighted GPA in context of the courses which are offered in your high school and where the unweighted GPA ranks within your class at the school.

  8. Temporarily, and not all schools.

If the unweighted GPA was a better measure than universities would consider in admissions. In North Carolina and many other states -- it is not even considered in state universities.

If unweighted GPA was highly considered then it would behoove high students to only take basic courses (no honors or AP) to get an easy 4.0 so they can be at the top of the admission list. This is not how things work.
