It is not ready. We know the product is very late and have just had a major increase in programming staff. This will allow us to catch up and get both a multi-core version and real time released before mid 2009.
Hello all, Have just happened across this very interesting thread and while I have read the first several pages with the reviews and the last several pages, I do not have time to read the other 50 pages.. I am looking for backtesting software that can do everything discussed in the turtle-trading books, as well as being able to utilize volume and fundamental data. I think the $3000 trading blox could accomplish all of this, but Amibroker is the best inexpensive option? Do any of the software have 50 years of historical stock data? Are there any guides to using Amibroker programming as it has been described here as being very complex? Many thanks!
The short answer is yes, AB is the cheapest option. It may or may not be the "best" option for you. The original turtle rules are not that tough to program, but TradingBlox has it right out of the box, and TradersStudio can also do them very easily. Both AB and Tradingblox offer demos - you should try them out. Tradersstudio does not offer a demo, but I believe they still offer money-back in the first 30 days, so it is low risk as well. You have to figure out what is right for you. AB does have guides for using some more of the advanced features, but it is definitely a bit of "you're on your own". That said, I recently found a particularly good guide for the advanced backtester, and the community, as I've said is great. I should also say that all these platforms are a bit of "you're on your own" - the community is there to help, but you need to put in effort. The second question, about data, is more difficult. CSI, Pinnacle, QuotesPlus - there are a lot of data vendors out there. I don't know who goes back 50 years. CSI would be my first stop. Note that Tradersstudio is unique among all the program in being able to backtest stocks accurately in terms of splits and dividends. Hope this helps.
Thank you, very helpful. So all of the programs including Amibroker do not include data but the data to be purchased is compatible with each of the software? It's amazing to be that TraderStudio is the only one that can take into account stock splits and dividends as I imagine this could significantly affect backtesting...
inquisitive, if you wish to read only reviews of the various products, without the in-between posts, please have a look in the following thread: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=120954
TraderSystem: Debugger of TradersStudio is a source level debugger. You can debug and test out your code using it. Please see the following link for more information: http://www.tradestationzone.com/tszContent.aspx?PageID=122&ProductID=728
Was searching net for data vendors, see so many, like here: http://www.cbot.com/cbot/pub/page1/1,3248,1209,00.html Read some interesting comments: http://commoditybroker.org/support.htm So, is having reliable data not required for EOD? How do we know which data vendor is reliable? Also, what makes a data vendor reliable? http://books.google.com/books?id=qK...&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=7&ct=result So, how to know if we are using reliable data?
