Deciding on a Backtesting and Trading Platform

  1. The program converts EL to C++ which is the fastest language. It allows us to archive 20-50% advantage in calculation in majority of test cases.

    It is a rumor :)
It is obvious that we care about our reputation and we are not interested in users scripts. So we help people using remote desktop (if they wish), but an user can see what we see/do and if he/she doesn't want to disclose something we will never insist.

What limitations are talking about? I need to know it to answer your question.

We get data from TransAct. It seems it works ok now. We had some problems in the past when TransAct modified their API. I think the worst limitation of TransAct is a lack of history. I would use eSignal, IQfeed, IB or OpenTick.

Sincere thanks for your active participation. There was a lot of interesting remarks and comments, especially on TradersStudio not being a real time product.

Although, it is true, nevertheless, you all are required to please see the following quoted words, (in this post from the thread : Getting Started Developing and Trading System)

Hence, it was my research goal to find a suitable product for "End-of-Day" trading and not "Real Time" trading.

Hence, now I think I have made myself clear as the quote of comparing an apple with an apple.

I would really like to explain the power of TradersStudio's money management. I will start a thread discussing money management and TradersStudio next week.

Mr. Murray, the Money Managment thread is indeed a good idea. When do you plan to start?

  5. Hi Andrew, one last question before I go for the MC trial. I am looking at opentick for historical data. Have you heard or has anyone heard any problems with using OT for historical data with MC? I have never really used OT before? Thanks

Im surprised to see no mention of this- its a phenomenal backtesting and system development tools, as well as a very flexible ad-hoc EOD screening tool- super fast as well- using it for over 2 years and fast tech support, frequent upgrades etc- worth a try-

  7. Oh yes definitely agreed. That's one of the reasons I just downloaded it. I need software to plot indicators based on 3-5 conditions and the ELD is already written. It's great the MC will convert to C++. I would love to see how it backtests. Heck I have been doing manually a few days now with each signal taking like 5 minutes because of the conditions that must be met.

  8. I was a little bit skeptical about OpenTick, but it seems it is a good value for money.
