I don't recall that the collectors were blocking their number. Everybody can easily call the phone company and set things up so that blocked numbers don't get through..

Bad idea. They can countersue for what you owe them. Sueing them is exactly what they want.

  3. I keep everything now. No papers ever get thrown away. I also track all my purchases on a spreadsheet. Doesnt matter if I spend $500 or 50 cents, it gets written down. This way at the end of the money, i know exactly how much money i have down to the penny.

I also used to track my power usuage by writing down my kwh on my electric & gas meters. When I first moved into my house, the electric company tried to charge me for almost 100 kwh that i didnt use. I wouldnt have known if I did not write it down the day I moved in. It was only 10 dollars or so, but better in my pocket than theirs. If you dont keep track of you money, people will take advantage. Or sometimes they just make mistakes. If i return something i purchased, I try not to trust them that they are going to credit me, so I look for it to make sure.

I think everyone should track their purchases, that way you can see what you waste money on every month. Before I tracked my purchases, I found I was only saving maybe $200 per month if I was lucky. After I tracked, I was able to save $1000 or more per month.

Make sure you have somewhere to stash the cash before they can get a judgement against it!! I heard of judgements against collectors over $50,000, they harassed me over a lot less than that...

  5. Nice Thread - For an awful subject

I worked with someone in the mid 90's that blew up a biz in the mid 80's and stiffed AMEX for ~ 50K. He called them up and just said he couldn't pay. They wrote it off. About 5 years later they solicited him with offers of another account (after he had started another business). They gave him another card. He ran up about 12K before going belly up in business again. He stiffed them again.

I told him he should be doing commercials for AMEX (ie don't leave home without it). He didn't enjoy my humor. To paint a balanced picture - this guy was living on an "all cash" basis - which suggests people were after any assets that could be nailed down.

I had a run in with JCP 9 years ago - I closed an acct in January which I though was balance free. I moved. No bills arrived or were forwarded. It turned out the acct had a small balance (<$100) left over from Christmas shopping. JCP sent this collections without any attempt to contact me. It was a mess. JCP stopped taking my calls. They wouldn't produce any records for months. I had a JCP store manager try to intervene (they usually have clout). She was told to butt out. GMAC kept reassigning the account to other collection agencies every time I got the one handling the collection to register my dispute. (I originally though this was credit card fraud until I finally saw a reciept almost a year later). In the end, it took a letter to someone way up the food chain at JCP to stop all the noise. All this after being a 20+ year acct holder with no late or missed payments ever. So much for customer loyalty :(

  6. I havent paid my cc in over a year now. I owed about 10K but almost 9 was owe to Chase.

This company has a bad reputation and most likely will take me to court.

I really dont know how this stuff work but I am 200% determined not to pay them. Even If i have to go to jail for it.

If these thieves can steal under the law, I will make justice to myself above the law.

    29.99% APR is just ridiculous.

because they can not prove it. When these scumbag companies buy the debt they never obtain proof. If they take you to court, make them prove it, they will then probably drop the suite.

This is a good site for help http://www.infinitecredit.com/forums/ its slow but you will get the best advice. Creditboards will get you in trouble.

never pay a collection agency until they provide valid proof of the debt. With C they may be able to, C is ruthless when collecting debts, or used to be.

  9. The Justice you speak of is actually called the devils justice. You agreed to those terms when you got the card. Nobody put a gun to your head and made you spend money.

I'm betting that you have never went to jail before because of that statement that you are willing to go to jail before you pay. I spent 1 day in jail about 12 years ago. It was like living in a public restroom with a bunch of dirty homeless people & wanna-be gangbangers. I couldnt even sleep because I didnt know if someone had pissed on the beds (sure smelled like it) If someone said to me, pay $10k or spend 6 months in jail (even if I didnt owe the debt) i would pay $10k just to not go there.
