Florida moves up to #10 state in Covid death rate despite missing most of the initial wave in 2020 when there were no reliable treatments. The number that floors me is over 1 million "active cases" in a state of only 21 million people ( I'm unsure how accurate that number is but it's huge compared to most other states ). The Worldometer chart is filling in nicely now clearly refuting almost everything Tsing Tao has posted the last two months and illustrating again how delayed reporting works. Unfortunately, medical staff and officials can't be that casual and sloppy with their analysis or they risk getting overwhelmed by a huge outbreak. Some risked it anyways hence Florida and their current Covid experience.
the worldmeter chart is kind of unreliable for Florida since they rely on state numbers. The NYT chart is a much better tell of the FL situation.
Let's see what the Tampa Bay newspaper has to say about the anti-vaxxers who love DeSantis and Trump so much while whining about their "freedum". Anti-vaxxers? Goodbye and good riddance Your quitting your jobs goes a long way toward purging us of the gullible, the conspiracy-addled, the logic-impaired and the stubbornly ignorant. https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/2021/09/26/anti-maskers-goodbye-and-good-riddance-column/
Florida's COVID-19 death toll tops 53,000 https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2021/09/27/floridas-covid-19-death-toll-tops-53000 The COVID-19 death toll in Florida has jumped to 53,580 people, after a state Department of Health report Friday added 2,340 deaths. The 53,580 deaths, as of Thursday, were up from 51,240 deaths reported a week earlier. More broadly, the new numbers reflected the continuing effects of a surge in cases in recent months that drove up deaths. As an example, the Department of Health on Aug. 27 reported that 43,979 people had died since the start of the pandemic. That means the death total has increased by 9,601 in less than a month. In all, Florida had totaled 3,539,272 cases as of Thursday. The surge was fueled by the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus, which particularly threatened unvaccinated people. After hospitals filled with patients this summer, the state has seen steady decreases in hospitalizations in September. Numbers posted Friday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said 7,478 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Florida. That was less than half of the 17,088 patients with COVID-19 a month earlier.
