1. Serious offer: Anyone interested in getting paid to copy all of my old posts to Microsoft Word? I'll pay 10 cents per post, and ultimately I'd like them all backed up in this manner.

Please don't start the job until confirming it with me first via PM. I'll probably end up dividing my post history into 3 time periods, to be split amongst 3 guys*, thanx!

*I expect that at least two out of these three will enthusiastically agree to the job, stall me for a while, and then just flake out completely. Hopefully, at least one decent & motivated worker will emerge to pick up all the slack. We'll see...

P.S.: Please do not enthusiastically agree to the job, stall me for a while, and then just flake out completely. I know it's human nature, but humans are mostly douchebags.

  2. At ten cents per post thats 500 dollars.

How about give me 1500 and I'll do it?

I'll do it for anyone. For Jack Hershey, William Rennick and other top traders, I'll have to charge a bit more though.

  3. Ok, I'm torn between posting two different variations of my obligatory smart ass reply. That's why I need help from YOU, the viewer! Kindly vote on which version you prefer. Thank you!:

Version A, Sophisticated: "While I admit that some forms of unskilled work do in fact pay ~$250/hour, most of those jobs tend to involve underground pharmaceutical distribution or male orgasm production."

Version B, Vulgar but simple: "Dude, if you want to earn ~$250/hour for unskilled work, you're going to have to either sling some rock or suck some cock."

  4. Your a top trader, what do you care if you sling 1500 dollars here and there. Thats an hours work for you.

  5. If you were entry-level rich (way below 8-figures net worth), would YOU pay $1,500 for something you could easily get for just $500?

Besides, I may eat pork on Yom Kippur... but your suggestion would be a truly despicable violation of Jewish tradition!

  6. Much of the content in ET that is of any value is from 5 years past.

I don't understand why you would delete valuable content that has never been discussed since.

At least someone has taken the initiative to archive some of the more important threads/posters.

    http://acraryinfo.blogspot.com/

nothing of quality has since been posted on the subject that is remotely close to the content posted by Acrary.

You should re-consider deleting older content. Maybe set the delete on a page-views based criteria.

    Or, here's a better idea.

you could delete the entire contents of "chitchat" and you would free up 90% of your server space.

  7. Hi Baron,

It would seem like you are manually looking at particular old threads that are of considerable length and then deciding or not to delete them.

Simply, there are old threads that still remain from 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1999.

In fact, if I click on any member's post history in this current thread, I can read any of their message posts in any thread from the above dates.

For example, here's a thread I participated in the year 2002 (5 years old)...

    http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9727

The same is true for other long time members posting in this thread.

Therefore, it's obviously this isn't just an auto pruning process that would validate what you said...

Simply, you are manually deciding which thread remains and which thread to prune (delete).

Another way to look at it, ET management has decided they will determine what is of value and what is not of value...

    Not the members themselves.

    :( :( :(

Thus, I truly believe you guys have an obligation to your members to post a thread with links to pending threads that will soon be deleted so that current ET members can decide if they want to download the information or not.

Another option is for ET management to go into its servers and pull out/copy the data prior to deletion and save it in a readable format.

You can then archive them on DVD and sell them back to the members considering some members obviously have expressed these threads are very valuable.

Simply, this could be a money making process for ET management and not to do such gets me back to my point...

You guys are deciding what is of value and the pruning is not an auto process.

If I am wrong, the only possibility is that you have other criterias for the old threads such as size.

Thus, are you guys doing what other forums are doing in that if its old and large...

Get rid of it because it's taking up too much space on your servers while the old and small threads will remain.

I even thought that you are currently in the middle of the pruning process and that you are slowly doing one section at a time from top to bottom or via alphabetical order.

This could explain why there are posts that still remain from the years I've mention above.

Thus, soon they will be gone when the pruning process reaches them too.

Interesting thread and I have two comments:

1.) I don't think many people would disagree that the quality of posts on ET has gotten - and continues to get - worse daily. It seems this has become a site for those emboldened by the anonymity of the Internet, and they come her to start flame wars, argue, fight, etc...things they would never do in real life because they are actually cowards. But I digress - my point is the quality continues to worsen, so the real value on ET comes from the history and information posted and discussed in previous years.

Also - to Baron's point about not wanting new readers to get outdated information, that seems a little ridiculous. Basic due diligence will let someone know if information is obsolete. That is a responsibility of the reader, and a weak argument for Baron to make in order to justify deleting old threads.

2.) Storage is cheap. For ET as a business, the value of the information and the readers it attracts should far outweigh the cost of storage to keep all of the past information available.

Baron, it is easy for all of us to play Monday morning quarterback and question how you run your business. But this move makes no sense, and frankly with the lack of controls you place on membership - letting people who are banned come back hour after hour and post the same crap, and not having consistent standards for moderators of member behavior - ET is becoming nothing more than the Yahoo! message boards.

    Just my .02.

I was thinking about something likes that, probl by having a public 'execution' list and let members make a case for their favorite thread, America's Next Top Model style . This should be interesting.:D :D :D
