What a shame that yesterday's bounce wiped out most of my short positions and today started with a gap down. Well, it happened, all the time.

144 round trips so far since the beginning of this journal. To save my soul, I have got to count the would-be paper savings of commission 144 X $22 = +$3000.

So my method would be making money ? $3,000 out of a $50,000 account at IB, which is a measly 6%. In the same time, NASDAQ went from 1800 to 1900, 5.6%, SP-500 less than 4%, and DJI about 2%. After taking into consideration of slippage, the return is probably between NASDAQ and SP-500.

Please, market godess, give me some bear market so that I have something to show.:(

Very disappointing, time to reorganize and reflect.

One thing is the spellbook effect. I love playing those fantasy computer games. In those games, once you learned a spell, you'd forget the runes after some time, you have to relearn it to be able to use it properly again. And if you use the spell once it is no longer fresh, you could incur some very serious discomfort for youself. Same goes to the patterns and setups. I kept a list of sample charts for the setup I am looking for, but I do not go through them when I am doing the daily plan so I forget and more dangerously start to experiment things, which often gets poor result.

When I was doing my backtest, the result was much better, I remembered I wrote here in this journal $1000 gain for each session from the same group of 40 stocks with the same assumption of $30 commission charge. And now this realtime paper trading is negative, still positive for IB commission rate, but the difference is so vast. It appalled me.

In addition to the spellbook effect, I think the poor performance of the realtime paper trading is the result of inadequate time. Maybe I should just drop more sessions whenever I don't feel like doing it, then very likely I will only do 1 out of every 4 trading days. How can one make a living by working 25% of the time ?
