50% from what they were until today...
Dax, EuroStoxx... etc. Close at 20.00 mid european time. So what's that 17.15?

    50% of the minimum margin.
Times: I pulled them from a file. I forgot about the extended Eurex hours when I posted earlier. I just spoke to an ex-dax trader (works in our HK office now) and he mentioned that liquidity tends to dry up around 6 PM. He didn't know if that was still the case but either I read the file incorrectly, the liquidity issue was factored in when determing the times to revert to full margin, or there is something else (like clearing house issues) that were taken into consideration.

  4. 17.15: 17.30 was the former market close time, dt. boerse
some day announced to trade until 20.00, however, 80%
of participants consider the time after 17.30 as extended hours,
    there is really less liquidity.

  5. Are you saying that the margin requirement for the DAX is dropping by 50 %? What are the hours that are effected based on East Coast time?

  6. 17:00 Eurex Time (GMT+1) is 5 hours before NYSE closing.
I think currently there are 2 weeks per year, when this is not true.
Europe´s DST (daylight saving time) starts (and ends) 1 week earlier than US.

  7. This is not true. In central Europe we are at NYC +6 hours.

UK is at GMT and as such at NYC+5

Right now for example it is 13:27 whereas in NYC it is 7:27

So DAX starts at 3am NYC time and finishes at 2pm NYC time but
as we said earlier volume is only between 3am and 11:30am.

  8. 17:00 Eurex time minus 6 hours is 11:00 NYC time, which is 5 hours before the closing bell....

  9. Yes right. I saw after my post :)

I think it was said in a complex way so I tried to clarify :)

  10. Reverts back to full margin at certain times. I use the NYSE closing (4:00 pm ET / 22:00 CET) to memorize when I should have closed positions. That´s the reason why I used 17:00 CET / 11:00 am ET as a rule of the thumb: "5 hours before NYSE closing". For the E-Minis (CME) my rule of the thumb is: "30 min before NYSE closing".

ET (New York) and CET (Paris, Berlin) looks easy for me.
Gets more difficult, if you add CT (Chicago) and GMT (London). :D
