you would think, unfortunately that isn't the case with IB. eg, the browser-TWS will not work with anything other than IE.
I have to experiment. Even if IE is open, chat brings up a mini Safari window, and then clicking on either chat choice doesn't work. It might be a default browser issue. Okay, I got it to work. I think it's still using Safari, though. I changed default browser to IE5.2.2, and clicked on the chat menu in TWS. The window gives a choice of chats and I picked the deluxe interface mode. This seems to work. I'm in a chat. I don't really use them, but there was a notice of an IB official instructional chat so I thought I might go to that one.
yes, you can change that in prefs. just tried with safari and camino (gekko-based), neither one works. window opens and immediately closes. IB has some kind of microsoft proprietary crap going on there, probably same as with browser-TWS itself.
You can try going directly to the chat using this link: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/html/chat/traders_chat.html
It's working now. See my edit above. I set the default browser to IE 5.22, also I did upgrade this computer to the new Java yesterday. Did you upgrade yours? That also might be a factor. I see that the chat IS running under IE!! You can't tell easily because they remove all the top bars. I didn't upgrade Silver Moon's java yet -- just Donna's. Speaking of which, when I run TWS on both computers on the same network, TWS no longer runs smoothly. On both computers it keeps logging me in, redrawing the window intermittently rather than always. Did you ever try maintaining the TWS on two computers at once? I like to take the PB into the bed with me when I nap sometimes, and can keep trading from there as long as everything is working, but I don't like shutting down the TWS on the desktop machine.
yep, it needs IE. ugh. i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to be logged into the same account from two places. at least, i hope not!
You can't login using the same account from two instances of TWS. You can have only one login into any account. If you have two accounts with IB you can have two running, one for each account. TM Trader
