Precedent has already been set. Looting is shopping, vandalism is art, riots are mostly peaceful protests. The right has shoppers, artists and mostly peaceful protesters too.
I think some historians call the Boston Tea Party of the 1700s the first instance of looting in the US. Recorded looting, anyway. I guess the end justifies the means.
One man's just cause is another man's violent mob. "Nobody is right when everyone's wrong". The extremists are running the show now. No way to end it peacefully I'm afraid. Can't say I'm surprised.
Just taking off the partisan glasses for a sec and stepping back, the fact is that we have presumably poor and unemployed "blacks" AND "whites" out in the streets now. We can argue over who's right and who's wrong, but that fact is clear. People with jobs, whether great, good, decent, pretty lousy, and for some a couple of those together, are at work today.

DC mayor Bowser has imposed a 6pm curfew and invoked mutual aid agreements and is bringing in MD and VA state police, PG, Montgomery, Arlington, and even the Baltimore city police.
