There are PDF manuals of IBM 15-inch and 14-inch XGA (1024x768) CRT monitors floating around online. I looked one up a while ago. The manual states the maximum viewable WIDTH of 15-inch CRT screen is 11.0 inches wide and 10.6 inches wide for 14-inch CRT screen. Lo and behold, 1024x768 on a 23.8 inch FHD monitor is EXACTLY 11.0 inches wide! Mind blown! The more things change the more they stay the same. Since the old CRT monitors were curved screens, if you get a CURVED 23.8 inch FHD monitor today and set the resolution to 1024x768 and CENTER the image, it's about the closest you can get to the good old days!
