Superintendent says Detroit schools 'deeply using critical race theory'
    https://www.foxnews.com/us/superintendent-says-detroit-schools-deeply-using-critical-race-theory

The superintendent of Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) said earlier this month that schools in his district are "deeply using critical race theory," claiming students must learn about historical injustice in the United States "to better understand who they are."

Superintendent Nikolai Vitti made the remarks during a Nov. 9 school board meeting, footage of which went viral Tuesday after being disseminated on Twitter by Manhattan Institute senior fellow Christopher Rufo.

"Our curriculum is deeply using critical race theory, especially in social studies, but you’ll find it in English, language arts, and the other disciplines," Vitti said. "We’re very intentional about creating a curriculum, infusing materials and embedding critical race theory within our curriculum."

"As was stated by speakers today, it's because students need to understand the truth of history, understand the history of this country to better understand who they are and about the injustices that have occurred in this country," Vitti added.

Vitti also criticized HB 5097, which Michigan House lawmakers approved this month to ban "implicit race or gender stereotyping" in the state's K-12 schools. The bill has since been referred to the state Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness.

Referring to Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Vitti said, "I think our best strategy politically is to lean on the governor to veto it, as she has done with other legislation that has passed in Michigan over the last couple of years."

Republicans in the state House approved the bill in a 55-0 vote, but Democrats refused to vote on the bill at all because not every lawmaker who wanted to speak against the measure was allowed to do so.

"A yes vote means taking a firm stance against the absurd claim that individuals bear collective guilt for historical wrongs committed by those who happen to share their race or their gender," said Republican state Rep. Andrew Beeler, who was the main sponsor of the bill.

Vitti did not respond to Fox News' request for comment in time for publication.

These Deep South Democrats you write of voted with Republicans when they got to Washington. That's the factual record. You have to live with truth. What else is there? The reason they ran as Democrats in the Deep South has its roots going back before the civil war. You can deny history, but anyone who knows the truth, knows that the Democrats in the Deep South, from the end of reconstruction to well after integration, were philosophically and politically aligned with the Northern Republicans once they got to Washington. The Blacks in the Deep South , on the other hand, were solidly Republican in their local voting, if and when they could vote. From the end of reconstruction until after integration, Deep South Blacks didn't get to Washington. These are demonstrable facts that can not be denied.

That's exactly right. These segregationists were all Democrats! UNTIL THEY GOT TO WASHINGTON. Then they voted with the northern Republicans. Byrd filibustered Northern Democrat initiatives! THAT'S THE POINT! These so called Deep South Democrats, and some not so Deep, were all Republicans dressed up in donkey suits. They were a part of the reversal of the political party roles in the Deep South from the end of Reconstruction until well after integration. You should pick someone else to argue with on these points. I live in Mississippi for Gods Sake. I understand why this political history is dumbfounding to Northern young people born after integration. But you live in North Carolina, you should be familiar with this political history.

I am very familiar with political history — in fact I have outlined in detail with supporting sources the history of the Democratic Party in North Carolina in recent decades including the rural/urban split and many rural Democratic candidates who are KKK members running for office in recent years.

You should also take a closer loook at the white Republicans in the North who came to the South in the 1960s to work for civil rights. While also taking a better look at Northern Republican support for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other civil rights legislation. For example the only Republican supporting the filibuster in the Senate of the 1964 Civil Rights Act was John Tower from Texas. Your assertion that Northern Republicans were somehow in league voting with Deep South Democrats when they got to Washington is simply not true.

Just so you once again have the opportunity to educate yourself -- something you appear never to take advantage of...

As a follow-up can you explain why are KKK members still running for office as Democrats in 2010, 2012, and 2014? - one example. A second example. A third example. More examples.

I have explained in detail before the split between mainstream Democrats and rural Democrats in North Carolina in recent years. A split that caused the state Democratic party to go bankrupt in North Carolina and sell their headquarters. The turmoil also caused the 2014 Senate Campaign to be funded and ran by the Wake County Democrats rather than the state party.

If you think that Democrats in the KKK is not happening in recent years then you are sadly mistaken.

The only place we have significant disagreement is with respect to politicians running as Democrats in the Deep South in that period from the end of reconstruction until integration. That is the only time period my previous remarks relate to. I maintain that there were virtually no blacks in Congress representing these Deep South States during that time, and that the White male, Democrat Congressmen elected in the Deep South voted with Republicans on substantive matters, with rare exception, during the period I refer to. Assuming I am right, one can immediately see how a naive person simply counting "Democrat" and Republican heads in Congress during that time could get a distorted vue of actual Congressional alignment.

It only took a few decades but we finally found a former KKK member running for office recently as a Republican rather than as a Democrat (beyond David Duke)...

A Trump-loving former KKK leader who was jailed for beating a Black man is running for office as a Republican in Georgia, report says
