The Democratic talking points that "CRT is in our state curriculum therefore it is not being taught in K-12 schools" is a hard fail -- especially when the state board website has an endless pile of collateral promoting CRT lesson plans and material for teachers to use. Along with information urging CRT material incorporation into learning. This is very evident in the Virginia state BOE website. Once again states implement the high level curriculum. School systems implement lesson plans to teach the overall curriculum. CRT material is found within lesson plans. Many state BOE websites recommend lesson plan material (via links to other sites) which contain obvious CRT material for K-12 education. Similarly the talking point that "CRT is narrowly defined as a a high-level study examining the intersection between race and other cultural forces." that is taught only in graduate-level seminars is not working very well for Democrats -- as well as being demonstratively false. When all of the same concepts are being taught in K-12 classes including deconstructing "whiteness," institutional racism, white privilege, and all of the other concepts that rational people commonly associate with CRT -- there is not escaping the reality that CRT is being taught in K-12 classrooms. Likewise simply renaming CRT-based lesson plans and concepts to a name like "Equity" learning does not change the reality that CRT is being taught in the K-12 classrooms. For Democrats claiming "equity" is not CRT because the name is different -- it is obvious to the parents that the "emperor has no clothes on" and they are being fed a pile of nonsense. The Governor's race in Virginia brought some obvious truths to the forefront -- and parents are no longer going to put up with CRT-based learning being fostered on their children in K-12 classrooms. Coupled with the reality that Republicans now have a formula for taking every competitive race in the country unless Democrats back-away from the CRT fallacies in the education of children.
Not to worry, when this whitey safe-space topic de jour is long forgotten, the GQP can claim victory too in having defeated CRT when nothing is done because nothing needed to be done.
What you are saying is my point that the Dems failed miserably on the message of CRT. Back in 2016 trump was hammering immigration message and it resonated with voters heavily. Rather than develop a better message to tap into the feelings of the electorate, the Dems called anyone against immigration reform/controls racist and spent most of their time calling trump and his ilk deplorable. trump's message landed and dems were clueless. Same in VA... CRT was an issue brewing with parents heavily and youngkin tried tapping into it with not a lot of success. terry made the dumbass quote during a debate nad youngkin's team ran with it and beat it into the ground. terry ignored it for some days and then tried to walk it back but that message was already pregnant and about to be born. dems failed at standing up and saying "We are not advocating any CRT to be taught in schools, diversity is not CRT and we just advocate for fair balanced history being taught. We are not pushing any blah blah blah...." Diversity and equity are about inclusion and fairness, not about pointing out one group over another. And to be clear, the parents bullshit fucktardedness that teaching about slavery will make white kids feel bad is just bullshit. History has good and bad facts and we are not in charge of your feelings for what other people did in the past. Show me where terry said anything like above.... I never saw him say anything like that anywhere. youngkin's team deserves a lot of praise for jumping all over that soundbyte and turning a close loss into a clos ewin which is not easy to do within 2 weeks of an election. terry's team should be fired (well I guess they are now) and never should work in politics again.
I agree with you that Demcorats failed miserably in their messaging related to CRT. First let's look at their current Democratic talking point -- "CRT is a dog-whistle of the far-right and is not being taught in schools". This is a hard fail. It is obvious to many parents that CRT-based lesson plans are being taught in K-12 schools. Trying to tell the parents differently is like the Democrats trying to tell parents the sky is not blue. Parents will simply go outside in daytime and easily see the Democrats are full of the stuff that comes from a the rear end of a bull. The Democratic messaging needs to be along the lines of the following: "It is important that all children feel safe and comfortable in school so they can learn and be educated. We are against any material or lesson plans which belittles or separates children on the basis of race. All children should learn an encompassing view of our history of the United States including our rich diversity, social history, and inclusive perspectives of all people. "For decades the Democrats have been leaders in improving and supporting education in the U.S. We want all parents to know we still support and will always support the education of their children. Our intent is to make sure every child well-educated as well as knowledgeable about our history -- setting the table for their success in life". "We understand the concerns of parents in having their children get the best education possible, and are always open to listening to their input and taking action to improve the quality of instruction." At the same time Democrats need to firmly back away from any material pushing CRT-based education in K-12 classrooms. This includes scrubbing any suggestions to use CRT-based material from government websites, not training teachers to use CRT-based material, and eliminating any "Equity" programs in schools. The focus needs to be on inclusion and diversity -- not on CRT and "Equity". Of course, Republican candidates will try to conflate CRT with "inclusion and diversity" -- just like they are doing with bills in state legislatures currently. Democrats need to be able to concisely and properly explain why inclusion and diversity is not CRT -- and that Democrats do not support CRT-based education & concepts for children in K-12 classrooms.
I saw this. Saw a CNN newsie trying to tell Rick Scott it wasn't part of the curriculum. These people would tell you the sky was green if they thought you'd believe them.
books can't fight back tho.... Read more here: https://thehill.com/changing-america/... "More than 4 in 10 Republicans say they’re opposed to public schools teaching children the history of racism, a new survey has found, though the majority still supports it. A Monmouth University poll found that 46 percent of Republicans disapprove of teachers educating students on the history of racism, while a slim majority (54 percent) of Republicans approved.
I don't blame them. I don't trust that public schools teachers are going to teach a fair and balanced look at the history of racism without distorting the truth into some woke bullshit agenda, so yeah - I'd expect a large portion of parents to say "no thanks". You only have yourselves to blame. If teachers union and the DoE weren't found to be such untrustworthy cretins the last year and a half, this would have been much higher.
