I needed to look that up. You're correct, a U.S. President can only pardon someone for federal crimes and not state crimes. The latter is handled by the state governor or state pardon board. Yet, it doesn't prevent Biden from giving the New York governor a phone call to keep Trump from becoming the first convicted felon inaugurated as the U.S. President...whitewashing no longer possible. Thus, if Trump is inaugurated President while still being a convicted felon...we will be laughed at by the entire world but it would verify the ethics of America. Similarly, I've watched the press conferences about Luigi Mangione. He's becoming a folk hero and people are donating money for his criminal defenses. If the RNC had a primary now...I think he could challenge Trump for the MAGA king.
