Credibility testing with a private forum?

  1. Hi Baron. That's a great feature and I have utilized it a couple times, but it excludes struggling traders from seeing who is credible.

I understand where you are coming from, but with the Hall of Fame thread list being one of the very first things a user sees on the homepage, I just don't buy into the fact that it's THAT difficult for a new or struggling trader to find good threads or users who are knowledgeable and interesting.

    Hi wrbtrader,

your attention to details in some of your posts is quite mind boggling as well. :D

If you don't mind me asking, what does the "wrb" stand for and what trading instruments do you normally follow?

    Thanks.

ubo, that's an off topic reply. If you want to ask wrb questions like that, start a private thread with him.

That's more or less "private messages", but under another name, though, isn't it, Baron? Not really related to the purpose the OP impliedly alludes to: that doesn't address the issue of people's credibility as successful traders being publicly established, surely?

No. The old Private Messages system was really just for private communication between two people, where Private Threads allow an entire group of people to interact with each other. No it doesn't solve the problem of finding good users to begin with, but like I said earlier, I don't think it's that difficult finding people on here that know what they're talking about.

Ok, thanks (I'm new-ish and hadn't realised that).

Agreed: I haven't found it so, certainly.

The problem, there, is for people who lack the judgment and experience to decide by whom to be guided (hugely important to beginning traders). Unfortunately but inevitably, the time at which they most need that skill is when they have it least ... but that's more or less universal, of course, and not specific to this or to any other forum. ;)

But isn't this the point? Don't we want segregation? I don't care for everyone's opinion. I want the opinion of someone who is actually putting money on the line when they enter a trade. Its incredibly easy to say the right thing when it comes to trading and sound smart, but without the ability to turn this into practice, all that knowledge doesn't mean much.

  9. It's called "collective 2" with much more detail than u are asking for.

I'm with you on this. Trading is one of the easiest things to talk about, but one of the hardest things to do. Put your money where your mouth is. 20,000 posts mean nothing to me. If you come to a site called EliteTrader and don't know who the elite traders are, it seems to defeat the purpose.

And yes, no one put a gun to my head and forced me to come here, but it's the #1 trading discussion board on the internet, and other popular sites operate with the same lack of credibility. I know better than to get hoodwinked by a phony, but the newer and struggling traders are exposed to a lot of misinformation
